You can get Elite in Trade or Exploration with little effort these days, just throw on some passenger cabins and head to the latest goldrush. You'll be Elite in a month or less. Sooooo many Novice ranked, docking computer, shieldless cutters in Shinrarta anymore.

This may have been the alternate account of a player, who knew their way around, so getting money/engineers wasn't a huge challenge for them. I've got a secondary account with 100,000,000 credits, and most of the PvP essentials unlocked already. Rank: Mostly Harmless lol.

Thanks for the clarifications everyone.

Looks like my assumption that Exploration and Trade (and PvP kills) affected overall rank more than it does in reality was what caused my confusion.

There is no "overall" rank.

The rank you see when targeting a ship is combat rank only.

Sites like Inara might cause some confusion. On your wing pages it shows your highest rank (in whatever category). Someone looking at that might think there is an "overall" rank.

Oooo. Interesting. Thanks.

I'm slightly surprised that Frontier agree to reset CMDRs' combat ranking though, as it's just a wee bit deceptive. Are there any valid reasons, like mat-spawning likelihoods?

I asked FD to reset my combat rank a few months ago, and they declined to do so

I seem to remember looking at the crew menu at the bottom at the helm's rank and that not corresponding to my combat rank so assumed the "overall" rank was the average of the 3 main ones. Or maybe I mixed it up with the rank of my crew (most likely).

One of my accounts is still mostly harmless but elite in exploration. Rank means nothing because a novice with 2 weeks of PvP experience will mop the floor with an elite pve player with 3 years experience because the extreme gap between human and npcs.
