Please help - Message "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later. (OVR75318303)"

Having installed and played Elite (via Oculus client) earlier this morning on a fresh install, when i try to run Elite from the desktop library, I now get the message "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later. (OVR75318303)"

I have made 2 changes since I last played.
1) I have installed AVG and
2) Using Disk Management, I changed the drive letter of my 2nd SSD from E: to D:

Solutions I've tried:

  • I changed the volume drive back to E again
  • I've tried uninstalling and re-installing Oculus Rift client, but nothing happens when I click uninstall
  • I checked user permissions and I am set as administrator
  • I added 2 exceptions in AVG "File Shield": C:\Program Files\Oculus\* and E:\Oculus Apps\*

I can still play Elite VR via the .exe in "E:\Oculus Apps\Software\frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous", but I can't seem to access the desktop version anymore. Also, Aircar runs fine from Oculus client.

Any ideas CMDRs?

Have you tried reinstalling Elite from your Oculus store?

Just tried that. I disabled AVG and when I clicked uninstall, I was asked to confirm, then nothing happened. I've also tried repairing oculus client. After repairing I still got the same error message.

I've now uninstalled Oculus client & I can run Elite via the launcher, but I can no longer access it in VR (obviously).

I am going to try uninstalling Elite then try to reinstall O.R client and Elite (again).

Have you reached out to Oculus support about this error? I did some searching and it seems to be a very generic error, but mostly associated with some corruption of OVR. One thing you could try is re-installing Oculus Home, but not ED. Grab a license key from your Frontier account and install ED in Steam and run it in VR mode. Plenty of people do this with no issue. The only alternative I see is to reinstall Windows....

Thanks for your responses CMDR.

Just reinstalled Oculus client, and Elite didn't need re-installing. However, I've still got the same error message.

This is a new build with a new install of windows. I've only installed mobo drivers, Google chrome, geforce experience and gfx drivers before I installed the Rift. Over the last 2 days, I've tried done 3 installs of windows in an attempt to fix this. I've had the same error every-time.

On this install, my gut feel it's one (or more) of the following:
  • changing the volume letter
  • installing AVG
  • a bug/issue with Oculus
  • an unknown issue with the new 8th generation intel hardware

Fortunately, I can still get into Elite, so it's just a minor inconvenience that I can't get to the desktop version.

I've done some reading on the same issue on the Occy forums, and tried some of the suggested solutions, but none of them have worked. I will raise a ticket with them directly and see what happens.
I'll reach out to Occy Support now. I'm also going to contact FD support, 'cos I can run all other O.R. titles from Occy client, just not Elite.

Thanks again CMDR for your input.

I just had the same issue, it appears for me that something in the AVG doesnt like the "orid.exe" that is required to run the game and every time the game is launched it quarantines the file. once i stopped AVG from blocking ORID.exe i can launch the launcher but i still get a message saying "elite dangerous is taking a while to load" and then it drops me back to the home screen.

If you want to try excluding the ORID file it might get you up and running, im still working on my second issue.

Open AVG
At the top right corner click menu
click on Quarantine
Find the "orid.exe" in the list of quarantined items and click on it to select it.
next to the delete button at the bottom of avg there is a little arrow that will give additional options, select "restore file"
click close at the bottom of the screen to exit the quarantine.

Then i excluded the elite folder from scans
open avg
at the top right hand corner click on menu.
click settings
it should open on the "general" tab, click on exceptions.
at the bottom of your list of exceptions there is an empty box that says enter file path - fill in the path to your elite folder and click add.

Assuming you used the oculus default settings when you first set up your rift the default path will be C:\Program Files\oculus\software\Software\frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous

Gawd blimey guv' you can read some real rubbish on the Nut, but..... All of the above acutally worked. The file was where you said it would be in AVG (damn it's nanny attitude) and all the other stuff you told me to do.... It just worked!

Faith in internet restored. :) Thank you so much. I had just given up on getting it to run in the Oculus Rift.

For bonus points, can you tell me, when I am in the new Dash home page, I am too low to reach stuff on the table, probably because I set it up while standing, but when I am in ED I am sitting. Is there a way to reset the height in the home page for when I exit ED?

Oh and Rep given! But really, I owe you a pint.

Wow, glad you got it worked out! There's a "reset view in app" in the Dash settings. This works for both Home and any other app. Elite has a hotkey you can bind to it, though, which is more convenient (default is F12).

Hi Nimieri
Thanks for your reply.
Just tried your suggestion, and unfortunately I have "No nasty files here" and Quarantine is empty.

Maybe AVG is doing something, 'cos after I did a fresh install, everything worked fine on Oculus client until I installed AVG. Then again, when I turn AVG protection off, I still get the same error. Most perplexing.

My workaround is to uninstall Oculus client every-time I want play in desktop version; usually if travelling long distances, driving the SRV or flying around the bubble to see various engineers. Then, I reinstall the client when I want to play in VR. It's only 1.7Gb and takes about 5 mins. I don't have to reconfigure the Rift nor re-download everything again. I usually go make a cup of tea, go to the loo etc

Finally, I raised it with FD support, but they weren't able to resolve.

Have you tried:
  • Click Occy client
  • Click Cog
  • Choose Settings
  • Click Devices
  • Click one of your sensors
  • Click > to the right of "Reset default view in VR"

You can change your height there. Is that what you were after?

Further update in case its of use to anyone:
I contacted support as i was still having issue with the play button reappearing and the game not starting, they suggested a verify of the game files as Watchdog64.exe sometimes has issues. A varify didnt help me but a complete uninstall, delete leftover folders and reinstall did. I'm not sure if this is down to more AVG oddness on how it had originally scanned the folder and its .exe's but its now sorted.

The reset button in the dash works for me and its handy to know you can change the hotkey in the settings, i hadnt noticed it when i first set this up. Thanks @heretowatch. I dont think the same as setting up the height in the settings but doing that each time you stand or sit is way too much effort for very little improvement.

@zarrazee - interesting workaround, sounds like you have a much better internet connection than me. if its working for you thats the main thing. my internet is so slow it would take a good 30 minutes to get a 1.7gb file, the downside of living on the edge of nowhere, so for me it needs to work without too much downloading.

happy hunting all.

Sorry something went wrong Please try again later (OVR75318303)

Hello Guys

This thread is the first thing that appears for me when searching for "Sorry something went wrong Please try again later (OVR75318303)"

I have just resolved this myself as I was getting this error for every game in my Oculus Library.

I diagnosed it by finding the smallest game that wouldn't work, in my case, Face your Fears.
I then uninstalled this to try the 'try reinstalling the game' theory which would take daaaaaaaaaaaaaays to complete my whole library.

After reinstalling the game, I noticed it installed in a different sub folder on my game drive.

Instead of installing in D:\Oculus Games\Software\Software
It installed in D:\Oculus Games\Software

I then cut and pasted (instant rather than copying) a bigger game (Killing Floor) into the 'new' sub folder and this resolved my issue.

Have a go at reinstalling a small game and see if it installs in a different location.

Hope it helps some people out.
