PLEASE HELP RIFT DK2 USER WHO CAN'T USE 1.3 RUNTIME!!

Hi, I have a DK2 unit, which i bough solely for Elite Dangerous. My graphics card isn't powerful enough for me to run the Oculus 1.3 runtime, which up until now was fine, as all the games I wanted to play (Elite Dangerous) I could play on my setup. I've been in hospital for a few weeks, and had to reinstall my windows 7 upon discharge. Now I find that havingupdated ED that I no longer have the DK2 3D options. I have 3D mode but it doesnt give the headphones/ stereo options. I'm panicking now thinking that ED is no longer supporting my setup. Can I still use ED with 0.5 runtime on DK2. I'm basically in possession of an expensive paperweight if I can't, as ive said I only got the computer/DK2 to play ED. ANY and ALL help would be very gratefully accepted. Many Thanks

Install the 0.8 Oculus runtime and SteamVR - ensure you enable the Steam VR beta under the app properties in Steam.

You can leave the 1.3 Oculus runtime installed and just use the runtime switcher :

Just switch to 0.8 runtime and then run SteamVR. Boot up Elite and set your 3D option as usual and you should be good to go.

Ive been using it for a while now because the 1.3 runtime + Elite + DK2 looks a right mess.

NB : I havent tried it on Win7 - im running Win10.

Sorry 0.5 is no longer supported you can still install 0.8 and run it with a steam beta interface. using the following :-
-
To get Elite going with Oculus SDK .8 or later going:
•Windows 7 or 10, latest updates
•Steam installed (does not need to be running) - Beta option must

be set
•SteamVr tool installed (does not need to be running) - Beta

update option must be set
•Oculus SDK 8.0 installed
•Elite Dangerous 64 bits installed

Start Elite Dangerous 64 bits via it's launcher (it does not care
whether it is launched through steam or not)
If the first time, Elite option graphics -> select HDM in 3D

Hope this helps.

@ HeavyGroovez and Adam, Thank you so much for your advice, I'll try it now. I would love to be able to afford to get a new graphics card, I just need to sell my Pandora console first, at the moment I'm just loving playing ED and was gutted when I thought I'd not be able to. Many thanks to you both :)

I don't know if the problem I had was the same as yours but I lost the ability to play my DK2 when I upgraded to Windows 10. For the life of me I couldn't get NVidia to install the latest drivers. I even contemplated installing NVidia Xperiance.

Anyway.. I know it sounds clichéd but it's a good idea to mention it on the offchance. Are your drivers up-to-date? I eventually got the latest drivers to install and it did the trick for me.

Why can't you install the lastest 1.3 drivers? The thing keeps complaining my computer isn't powerful enough to run the oculus (it is plenty powerful thank you very much). I simply ignore the warning and play. Make sure to skip the detection steps when you install the 1.3 software.

I've tried installing Oculus 1.3, it seems to install okay, but when I've gone to open Oculus home, its starts to open and then repeatedly switches on and off :( so I can't even look at settings or anything, just keeps restarting over and over

And you followed all the steps detailed here? https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=240289

I've gone through all the setups and advice, it seems to install. The first time I have the Oculus home on the desktop, then the moment it tries to enable the DK2 it just switches off, restarts, or tells me it could be updating and please try later. My graphics card is AMD Radeon HD 7790. I know its not up to CV1 scratch but has worked flawlessly for 08. Runtime games etc.

Ive tried everything.. :( I've uninstalled every Oculus reference on my computer, I've emptied the registry of Oulus references, I've Deleted every folder I can find, It just doesn't work. I really would love to hear from anyone who has an AMD 7790 and has the Oculus home working. I've spent so many hours trying this and would love any help to fix this. I'm just glad that I've managed to get ED working, but I'd really love any help
