Please let our SLF pilot survive destruction

You don't need an Elite pilot to fly with one.

Perfectly capable pilots are available for hire, and you can dismiss them to save money whenever you turn in something.

Elite is, well, "Elite". They should require work, and death should hold some form of actual consequence for you.

Just like you don't need a fully engineered modules. Definitely, we don't. But for the SLF to be worth using in a fight, the pilot does need to be at least dangerous. Otherwise it is better to have extra SCBs or whatever.

SCBs consume considerably greater power, are negated by feedback cascade, and require heat sinks to avoid taking module damage.

You can switch to an SLF briefly to push out high DPS, if the opponent shoots them down they've wasted time firing at it and if they don't, the fighter will deal constant chip damage. Also, I'd like to see proof that only dangerous pilots are "worth" using. In standard PvE scenarios, Expert pilots can be plenty helpful.

In the meantime, why can't you give some facts about why they are really useful at lower ranks... instead of dying to fast.

DAMN IT. Just crashed on a moon, forgetting I can use night vision. Pitch dark, didn't seem possible I was heading toward anything, haven't gotten used to the real dark - though I like the idea.

Rebuy, millions of data... Don't care. Lost like three hours of play. But an elite pilot... Tens of hours.

FD, please, PLEASE revive my pilot. I don't have the strength to go through this again. This really is completely out of balance.

It would be really cool if you had a timed mission to go get them. Like maybe 24 hours to recover their escape pod. That would be really cool.

IMO 24 hours is not enough, a lot of people have very limited play.time. But yes, any way to keep the pilots alive would be welcome.

Man, yesterday felt like crap. Strated playing, marked a moon, trned towards it, pitch dark, felt like in the middle of nothing. Hit boost and started the HS, couldn't.engage it. Then I heard the falling sound, quickly turned the ship around and started decelerating, but boosting again in time was out of the question, an exploration vessel wirh downgraded distributor. I was only able.to watch it fill out to half and boom. Seriously, the pilot was the only thing that went through my mind as she's lost.

This thread needs more attention if Fdev is going to do the right thing and give escape pods to our pilots. It is absurd that ever npc ship has escape pods for everyone, our passenger ships have escape pods for our passengers, we have escape pods for ourselves but for some explainable reason our pilots don't get one.

There is a lot of things that need to be fixed with regard to pilots and this is high on the list. The two other major things is that pilots should not bleed off xp once they reach elite and they should only get paid when active. When inactive maybe they get 1% or some nominal amount as a retainer. No one gets full pay when they aren't working so why should these pilots?

Agree completely. I'm filling a.bug report later just to turn FDs attention to the issue.

I always thought they weren't even in the ship, they used telepresence (like multi-crew) to instantly join you wherever in the galaxy you are... if FDev acknowledged this, then they would not only be more 'realistic', but also immortal :)

Just to let you know I posted this as a bug.

I'm not expecting FD to actually revive my pilot, naturally, but I'd really love to hear their view on the issue - whether it is something they might change in the future or they view it as correct and final state. If the latter is true, I won't bother with pilots any more.
