Engineers Please let us veiw an engineers full list remotely

I understand that you may have had UI constraints but the current engineers screen from the right hand MFD isn't as useful as it could be. Being able to pin only one blueprint and have to be docked at the engineer to change it means that instead of using the tools in game I keep finding myself using out of game tools to plan my engineer tasks. We can already browse all the blueprints when docked, it would be nice if you could find a way to implement this same functionality into the engineer screen. Although the out of game tools can give us the info we need it would be nice to have this sort of thing in game, especially seeing as the functionality is already there just not on the screen we need.

Like most missing features in Elite, you need to go to a third-party fan site for what you're looking for. I use the following to check blueprints while I search for mats. It can also group the engineering info organized by engineers or crafting mats so it's quite useful. If FD ever does manage to put a similar feature in-game it probably won't be as comprehensive anyways so I'd just recommend what's already available.

Same here and i don't even use the "pinned blueprint" option. But this is not a normal state for a well designed game.

Yeah inara.cz is a fantastic resource I use it all the time too. In my opinion it's what the official community website should be providing. I'd like to see more stuff in game though.

Maybe FD could add all the engineers reciepes below the ones they already list for srv/ammo/FSD injection... With a filter, as they already have done for the materials...

Yeah it would make for a huge quality of life improvement, agreed :)

We have Inara.CZ and other tools for that. Better if they spent their valuable development time working on module and commodity storage.

I agree with CMDR Thrudd. The external web sites like Inara and Elite Trading Tool are really great and will always be useful sources of information, there is just some information that should be more readily available in-game. Particularly the Engineers blueprints. And, as CMDR Thrudd points out, the view you need - the "browse all blueprints" menu- is already implemented in the game. You just need to be able to access it without being docked at the engineers station. Also, when viewing the blueprints in-game, it compares the required materials to those you have already collected, making it easier to see what you need to look for. When using Inara you have to make these comparisons yourself, and when comparing multiple different blueprints, it's easy to loose track of which materials are need for which blueprint IMO. I don't think that making this information available in-game would undermine the incredible work that has been done on the external tools, because they provide a lot of other cross-referenced information as well. Such as best places to look for materials, and what other blueprints use the same materials.

I'm sure someone else mentioned this, but I'd also love as well for the pinned blueprints to 'send the word' out that you're interested in the materials for those blueprints. So faction rewards would then be tailored to those materials you need.

I can't really see any reason not to allow this, it's possible there are some.... but I really can't think of them.

It bewilders me why this wasn't included on release of the engineers, it was brought up during beta, and I think FD said it was a UI issue.

I don't... really get why though, they already have the entire UI within the engineers bases themselves, just remove the button which says to preview the outcome... and... viola?

I'm also entirely unsure why they didn't implement it so that, any recipe you pin (and you should be able to pin whatever you want, not one per engineer... that's entirely arbitrary...) means that, once an item from a pinned recipe "drops" it get's a coloured highlight on it saying "Modification item" in the exact way that mission target get's placed onto mission targets... The system is there, seems odd it's not used, it would be SO useful, and make so much sense, and be way less frustrating.

This is a good plan as well

I can't understand that too. Whose amazing idea it was to allow us to pin only 1 recipe???

Of course I understand it's 3302 and computer can't remember any trade network data ... because of ... reasons... I'll pretend I understand them. (At the same time ship computer wonderfully holds HUUUGE amount of exploration data when needed).

But why we have only 1 blueprint pinned?

Why
we can not see what other recipe we might use towards rank gain during that eng. session?

Why we can't see what other same level recipes we already have a mats for?

Why can't we see what level thursters Felicity does - Level 2 or Level 3, and should I go to her or to Elvira for that?

Why are we forced to use 3rd party websites to find that out? ..................

Its simply lame to not have the option to access the engineers menu remotely once he/she is unlocked. I also use third party all the time, but we should have the in game option which give us the ability, with a glance, to see what materials we have and what we are missing for a recipe. The pinned blueprint is just not enough, i always end up visiting the engineer again and again just to see the blueprints. And please i dont wanna hear that using third party tools is a good solution, just to defend fdev. I can see there the blueprints but i have to search my materials one by one to see what i have. This update is frustrating enough to have to deal with essential stuff missing. Simply put, this update just have no respect for gamers play time, as others have said.
