Please, make starport's hologram in supercruise world oriented!

Hope devs will see this tread.

Request to devs make starport's hologram in supercruise world oriented as it does in normal space.
This will greatly affect the flight in supercruise and allow you to select the path approaching the station, just as you need it.

+1 to this.

I was just thinking this the other night. It could make supercruise entry into a local zone much more accurate.

If you want to have station well oriented, simply exit from supercruise between the planet and the stations, means, you have to have the planet in your back and station in your front, this way, tou will be always in front of the letter bow or so.

Totally agree. I warped into such a station, too, some time ago. And then stucked to the structure like a fly on the windscreen. Then I exploded :) .

Yes, this is what I try to do every time. A couple of problems with it though:

1) Not all stations are aligned like this
2) It is very hard to judge orbital eccentricity at close range with the current UI

Now, the way FDev does this means you don't have to be incredibly accurate to get within a 180 degree arc of the letterbox. I'd like to see more accuracy and using the target hologram in supercruise, if it was graphically aligned correctly, would help increase this accuracy.

If you want you can do that, but I want just one simple tweak to make it easy and friendly for Pilots.

That's a myth that got debunked by Michael Brookes back in gamma. Stations USED TO BE tidally locked (like the moon, same face always facing planet) back in FE2 and FFE but in ED they're in a standard orbit where the entry only faces the planet once per orbit.

Oh, and I'd back the OP on this too, as long as it's not too technically difficult etc. It'd be nice to have but it wouldn't be worth delaying something more important for.

What about outposts or other stations where you dock on the outside? Which orientation should that show? The landing pads are every which way, and you cant really say for sure which one you will be assigned.

This might work ok for letter box type stations, but it wont matter for the others.

+1 I'd like to have this suggested feature too.

Since the station does not always point at its planet or moon, it would be very useful.

There is world oriented Holo in normal space of any object. Does it interfere to you? No.
Same here.

Funny, I approach ALL station with the planet in my back and so far I've ended up almost in front of the letterbox in 95% of the cases, the remaining 5% would be due to a bad incoming vector from my part.

But I do agree with the OP that it'd be nice to have.

It should show the correct orientation as you are approaching it (just like starports).

Outposts are generally easier to land at. There's no letterbox and once you get to know the layout of the different outposts, you can find your landing pad pretty easily.

In that case it should still show the actual orientation, of course, even if the purpose in this case is not to approach it from a specific direction, but to remain consistent with the big starports.

+rep for an excellent suggestion. That would let us swing by the right direction to pop out right in front of the mail slot.

That's nice. You're arguing with the lead designer of game, not me... you'd think he's know what he was talking about, would't you?

If the letterbox was always facing the planet, you'd always have to dodge the planet when you launch, wouldn't you? And yet 3 times out of 4 you can't even SEE the planet when you launch.

If they always faced the planet, you would see the planet directly in front of you whenever you leave a station letterbox 100% of the time.

In reality this almost never is the case.

But if the holo showed that you were approaching from the wrong side, you'd STILL have to fly around the station to reach the mail slot... wouldn't you?

I think the idea would be that the holo you see in SC should accurately reflect the station's position and orientation in space relative to your own.

So if we had this feature, yes, if you approach in SC the holo should be in the same position as it is when you drop out.

Yes, but you will have option to notice that in the supercruise.

More of that it will be even better if NPC will make the path in supercruise to get in front of letterbox as well. As i notice they always spawn in front of the station. That make more sense to the NPCs traffic.
