Let me explain: when scavengers eat the remains stuck in the teeth of large carnivores, they are REALLY feeding. Large carnivores therefore act as giant, walking feeders for scavengers. On the other hand, large carnivores having their teeth cleaned benefit from a temporary bonus in disease resistance. This will make the animals more alive and justify mixing carnivores and scavengers
