Please no more data resets

Hi All,

So after the data reset and a few delightful issues getting going again, i'm finally making money again and on my way to getting a decent ship. I'm wondering if anybody can confirm if there will be another data reset between beta and full game.

I'm praying to god that there won't be because I don't think I can take it again, and I think starting every player from the same point (mentioned as a reason in the last newsletter) is a moronic idea.

As a user who has had an amazingly difficult time getting going without the use of third party trade assistant tools, to me the idea of placing every player in the same boat, fighting over the same resources / ships in a conflict zone is just the worst idea. How many people playing the game for the first time do you think will leave because, like me, they just can't find a decent way to make money and are stuck with the starting ship.

As I understand it, there will be a wipe at the start of Gamma - and perhaps others along the way!

You got a game that is in-development. If you are uncomfortable with starting over as new features come in then you should wait until the game is done before playing.

What do you want the money for? To buy a "better" ship? But why do you want that?

Anyway, there will be one wipe before Gamma at least.

Prior to that I don't know but I suspect every significant increase in travel space size or starting conditions (which we know are coming) may also cause a reset to test those parts effectively.

Toad.

It depends on bugs at this point.
But IIRC there is likely to be a wipe between the Beta or maybe Beta into Gamma, though that later one isn't confirmed. Again... IF FD discover something that is game breaking they will wipe and that is true all the way through into gamma and retail.

So, honestly, don't get too precious about what you have now, we are only in Beta 1 and I would think another wipe is highly probable, though not confirmed.

Well, we're kinda all here as testers at the moment, not really as players...

I believe the developers have said that there is definitely one more wipe coming.

The game has been in easy mode during alpha and beta, high trading profits and cheap ships and equipment, expect it to be a lot harder in the the gamma

The wipe at the start of Gamma/end of Beta is confirmed and has been for a long time. There may also be others if the dev process requires it. The settled part of the galaxy is really quite large so don't worry about crowding. Personally I like the start of the game where each earned upgrade really helps. I look forward to doing it again. With the new missions how hard is it to get started. Can't you get 2000 credits for some of them? But expect it to be harder, you'll start with 100 credits not 1000. I also expect the missions to pay less because they currently pay far too much compared to that 100cr starting cash.

Who wouldn't? Do you want to fly the Sidewinder for ever?

The game will open up for you as you progress from ship to ship. It's only natural to want to develop. We don't have character stats to increase as you would in a conventional RPG so our ships and equipment are a surrogate for that.

According to what the guys at Frontier have said there shouldn't be any more wipes until Gamma unless a really serious issue crops up that warrants it.

Together with reputations, which may open some doors and close others, as well as being necessary to access certain equipment.

Embrace the wipe for what it is, a new beginning, a chance to redeem yourself. Just be thankful you're not Neo meeting the Architect....:D

I confidently expect that there will be increased options for making money at the time of the next wipe. There were this time round with the bulletin board system offering some quick cash for small ships, and we'll only see more missions available as time goes by. Also we expect mining some time which'll offer another path.

And you really shouldn't need to rely on third party trade tools - nothing against them, but you don't need a tool to know that you can take Grain from an Agricultural world, sell it at an Industrial world and take Crop Harvesters or Clothing back - most of the trading is common sense and I think people make it too hard for themselves.

More than likely during development, but all depends on how much of a change happens along the way to Gamma. If there is something so fundamental to the game that the data needs to be cleared, then it will happen.

But if that happens or not, I think they said there would be a full wipe before Gamma. Otherwise you are going to have people with millions of credits and lots of new players with nothing.

That to me would be more of a game breaker than everyone starting from scratch.

I'm not using any of the third party trade tools. So far been up to a Cobra three times and then lost it all due to my own fault.

Trade isn't really that difficult at the moment.

Extraction systems want minerals
Refineries want metals
Tech's need food and stuff
Agriculture needs medicines

Just keep a note of what needs to go where and compare the prices (I use pencil and paper for making notes) and you can get money rolling in after a short time.

You are probably right about there being more options but I think the rate that different options earn credits to be scaled back. Every starting option needs to be seen against a 100 credit starting cash. So I think maybe starter missions for maybe 10% of what they pay now. Or paying more than that but having to earn some trader reputation by doing a few runs first.

Until Frontier publicly announce that they're done with wipes I would expect them.

As we're dealing with large content and data there could have been technical reasons not to do so, plus from the sounds of it your feedback on how the start of the game plays out could be quite valuable. I am hoping with the vast amounts of content incoming we'll get so engrossed in it we won't be concentrating so much on "grinding" aspect of it (this doesn't cover everyone, before someone chips in with a snide remark about those who will concentrate on getting the ship possible as soon as possible lol).

There is absolutely no way they can start the full game with carried over item, or money from beta, its quite unbalanced now and wouldn't be fair to those who are waiting for gamma. The worst

That's the point, these problems should be addressed throughout beta and then by the time of Gamma it shouldn't be an issue. Also, in the final game we'll be starting out in different randomized systems, so you won't be fighting too much over the resources and ships.

To put things in perspective these are the ships we have in-game as of Beta 1.x:

Sidewinder
Cobra
Eagle
Lakon type 6
Lakon type 9
Anaconda
Viper

Unless I have forgotten anything, that's 7 ships out of 25, so 18 more to come yet, excluding all the upgrades etc to go along with it, so do you really expect to keep what you have when this is all already in place? You'll miss out out on a lot of "stuff" which isn't in the game yet.

Theres going to be many changes to the game, balance, prices, the ship you are at couild end up being 20 million credits in the final game. Maybe harder to make money, more dangerous

It would be moronic to let you keep yours while everybody else has to play by the new rules.

Its testing, not early access.

Exactly. Lot's of people could have tens or even hundreds of millions by the release of Gamma. That wouldn't be fair on the new guys.

Sidewinder
Cobra
Eagle
Lakon type 6
Lakon type 9
Anaconda
Viper

Unless I have forgotten anything,

Hauler. Sorry.

You get to learn the game mechanics early, so when the 1.0 hits, you should be able to quickly breeze through the mud and into higher-tier ships.

What can get complicated is introducing new people in couple of years, where there will be many more addons and stuff to do, besides the basics of today.
