Please promote yourself!!!

I posted this in the newsletter thread, but perhaps this is the better place for it?

With every new newsletter my jaw drops open again.
The ideas are so good, so rich, and the designs and concepts so wonderful.

But what I absolutely hate is that Elite Dangerous gets far to little attention from the gaming websites, like eurogamer, CVG, RPS and PC gamer if you compare to Star Citizen.

I think it is ridiculous, because your newsletters are full of the most beautiful stuff worth showing off to a bigger audience. Personally I am much, much more exited by what Elite dangerous is doing than what Space Citizen is doing.

Please guys, promote yourself more, because Elite D deserves it!
I am convinced it will be the best space sim ever made.

I think at the moment FD are quietly going about their business, just as Limit Theory is as well. Star Citizen is a completely different kettle of PR fish. The time for a bit more exposure will come nearer the release date I would imagine. I've said this before, I think FD are very canny about what they release and indeed when and as Ashley might say they are going to show a lot more "soon"!

I agree, ED is not getting the attention it deserves but, I think closer to release date Frontier will ramp up the marketing and people will start to take notice.

I hope you are right, because it irritates the hell out of me that every fart from Star Citizen gets attention while almost nothing of the wonderful stuff the Elite D devs are doing is known outside of the Frontier forums.

It is not that I have anything against Star Citizen. I played and enjoyed Roberts' previous space games and I will play SC also, but publicity wise I think Elite Dangerous deserves much, much more attention than it gets now. Every newsletter makes my heart beat faster with excitement and I want others to know what beautiful things Braben and his team are doing.

To quote from a discussion i had on a Facebook gaming group only yesterday...

Elite??? what the space trading game I play on my amstrad when I was about 12-13???? Chris link us to the site with details on the new one!!!! One on my fav games on the old CPC 464

This is a 40-year-old-ish gamer who loved the original and still plays games every day. He had no idea Elite: Dangerous is even happening.

I spoke to a software developer about help with some additions to the T&F website..

He saw Cobra and said... that reminds me of ELite when I was young... they don't make games like that anymore..

ehhhehe I blew his socks off with the news.. His whole office had been subjected to the Eliteboss and Elite Carebear songs to give a feel for the site and I suspect they are all going to visit... OR STAY AWAY..

but they now know!!!!

We definitely intend to have a full marketing campaign closer to launch, and we are already laying the ground work for this. What we're trying to avoid though is approaching it in a scatter gun fashion; the game as a concept is a broad beast so if we're introducing it to a new audience we want to do it in a way that fully shows off all the different choices that players will have. Right now we're more than happy with just our backers being excited. ;),

Mine this rich seam, please.

It's a very good point you make about ensuring that this is communicated well to those who have no idea what Elite is about. There's been notable failures of really quite good games because the presentation of the content was off.

Of course, the worst thing that could happen is the Battlecruiser3000AD debacle, but even being on this forum for such a short time, it's obvious that such a level of failure is inconceivable.

But, just talking with American friends, the hype is Star Citizen. Elite has the general impression of being for 'old people'. While this is somewhat true that serious space sim gamers tend to be older, it would be a huge missed opportunity if Frontier fail to engage young American gamers at an early stage, imo.

I think that with video from Alpha and Betas test will be a great promotion for E: D
Everyone will see how great is Elite :)

When you think of the quality of the original gameplay video was excellent before all the additional work that has gone on since, this game is going to set the standard yet again on what a game Elite is/will be. :D

When we get some new footage I expect us all to need heavy medication!

Completely agree, I've had a look at some of the Limit Theory pre-alpha on youtube and it's made me wish I'd put a bit more money in to get earlier access! I suspect when ED footage of Alpha appears there will be a similar yearning from many people.

I enjoy the Frontier Kool Aid too.

I have no doubts that she will be not only an attractive partner, but a close friend with whom I can have a successful long term relationship, but Elite can be sexy, funny, engaging and intriguing to the Nth degree and yet, if it lives in a locked room (Eurocentric market), it will again become one of those Classic niche games of Legend.

A Storm is coming

Elite is a bit like a gathering storm. Quiet at first, barely just a whisper, then slowly, methodically, it gathers it's forces.....;)

but will it be like Dark Knight Rising, or Dark Knight Returns?

Wouldn't want Elite to be Batman getting it's butt kicked by the Star Citizen 'Superman'. :p

I know they're not the same, and I know they're different target audiences, but the same is true of Batman and Superman and yet, there they are in the same story...

The way I see it is that by the time of release pretty much everyone that had the slightest interest in SC will have bought it already. However there is a significant window between the launch of ED and SC that means that ED could clean up by simple virtue of being already available.

...I have a dream that one day, this game will rise up, and live out the true meaning of its creed 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all games are not created equal.'

...I have a dream that one day, a developer will hit a release date with a finished product, and that we will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

...When we allow Frontier to ring, from every server and every peer, from every player and every admin, we will be able to join hands and sing the words 'Elite at last, Great God almighty, we are Elite at last'.
