Any feedback on chaff affecting fixed weapons too?
Do you like that idea, is it too much?

Imho it won't change or impact gameplay much but chaff effecting auto convergence of fixed weapons is a reasonable request too i think. It would add to the plausibility of the game. You would expect chaff powerful enough to send gimbals on a bad acid trip would somehow effect all kinds of targeting. These weapons all use the same technology anyway.

Speaking for turrets that would've been a decent workaround if only we could assign fire modes to different fire groups... wait can we do that? :S

Also doesn't change the fact that it will make managing fire groups more cumbersome as an imperial surely you would not want that or maybe you can get a slave to switch it for you but we fedscum need this :D

To my knowledge you cannot assign a special firemode to a firegroup, only set the general behaviour in the right ui panel->functions.

I tried a clipper with turrets once, for the sake of testing a fast ship
orbiting the target laying down constant fire.
Tracking speed was an issue along with disproportional damage to heat values (beamz).

Turrets definitely need some love,
as does the point defence system, which
could be more useful, when it is
enabled again to shoot at your selected target
while no missiles/drones are inbound.

What is your take on having fixed weapons being affected by chaff aswell, resulting
in no convergence for time chaff is active?

Not something I'd want to see tbh..

Although it kinda seems logical that chaff could affect convergence it also detracts from the trade off imo..

I would argue that "tracking" a target is a more sophisticated system which should be confused by chaff,
whereas convergance only requires data on distance to target, and is dependant on direct line of sight, so should not be easily disrupted..

..Maybe a bit handwavium, but good and proper imo :)

So how does your ship check the distance if not for a laser-rangefinder,
or using the sensors.
If you pick up chaff (a cloud of metal shrapnells) that causes a lot of reflections,
like you try to use your mobilephone in a room consisting of metal will not
get a clean signal from the provider.

I think this should have an impact on fixed lasers too, since they cannot auto-rangefind
anymore.

Like I said would employ an element of handwavium for balance reasons.. if you were to apply pure science to this or any game you wouldn't have much of a game.. :)
