Please rename the game to Elite: Harmless :-)

Hi

Been playing for a week now. The game was great first two days. I enjoyed the adrenalin rising from first launch, first landing, first FSD jump, first confrontations, first interdictions...
But now it's like replaying the 1984 version in better resolution. Even worse, as in 1984 version I needed military lasers to destroy everyone. Here, pulse lasers are enough.

Human players in general avoid confrontation and even communication. Is messaging working at all? No CMDR replied my greetings so far. This is rude! Didn't you people watch Star Trek? :)

NPC's are no challenge. I'm destroying "dangerous" guys within 90 seconds with two simple burst lasers.
Elite NPC's should not be called Elite. When their hull is down to 50%, they start to flee on thrusters. Instead of wanting better guns and shields to stand up in battle, I want to upgrade thrusters first so I can catch these chickens.

I found several cans of Platinum floating around and scooped them, only to realize that they are illegal, and was fined over 50.000 c before had a chance to sell of them for measly few 1000 a can on the black market. I thought salvaging platinum that was lost in deep space was a good thing, but I guess it's an equal crime as to assassinate a few peaceful traders. OK, that's the last time I scooped anything.

I don't get missions at all. I can only do simple delivery jobs, sometimes from and to the same station. (What's up with that?) I could not complete a single hunt and destroy mission, although I spent hours combing the systems the target should be in and checking every single contact. Would it be too hard if in the mission we could get more exact location of the target in space and time?
I'm sure missions will get better and more challenging as the game progresses, but I'm quite discouraged so far.

Anarchy systems are too nice places. You are just as likely to be attacked there as in any system with government. Only once I was interdicted by a nasty Anaconda that was better to run away from. Every other time it was a poor pirate with only a few 100 c. bounty, and no challenge to engage in a fight. (Even the Anaconda I mentioned earlier was a Harmless commander with only 500 c bounty and not actually worth a risk.)

I'm sure developers wanted the game to be easy enough, so new players wouldn’t be discouraged, but please tweak up number of NPC pirates, their toughness and bounties, as well as likelihood of being attacked in anarchic systems to make us old guys happier.

How do you feel about my observations and suggestions?

Elite NPC's should not be called Elite.
+ ui, equipment and bounty of high ranked npc should be better.
Elite - cutting edge skills and bis equipment and corresponding reward, even if it is on sidewinder
I believe developers hardly working on this.

I found several cans of Platinum floating around and scooped them
- you did not manage silent running, and got punished for this.

I could not complete a single hunt and destroy mission
- it's ok right now. you did not get custom of this

Anarchy systems are too nice places
- you did not get kill warant scanner idea

Seems to me OP actually is complaining that Elite IS dangerous, and then complimenting Braben on recreating the game the way it was back in 1984. I couldn't agree more!

So much time has passed since the good old C64 days, and between then and now a lot has happened, and much drink and other things have been consumed to further make memories of that time fade away. Fortunately this is so close to the original that I am reliving those days to a large extent while playing. Every time I play Elite: Dangerous I get flashbacks from that old original game and it is pure delight ... although sometimes I make some bad decisions and I curse myself for doing the same mistake as I did 30 years ago ... but then must mentally send a "well played David Braben" ... and continue to explore and rediscover this awesome game :)

I agree It was a noob mistake. I didn't know it was Illegal. I was also expecting that Platinum can be sold on comodities market. :)
BTW, about silent running... Really? Fine for sneeking up on someone, but it should be the first thing that is suspicious to the police when smuggling.
Now I also turned off "report crimes" so I'm not scanned during battles. (Police are usually not much help anyway.)

I was looking in the forum for the best tricks on finding them, but didn't help me much. Too time consuming.

I did, I just wish there were more mindless pirates and status hunters, who attack you on sight. :p

Don't get me wrong, I also think it's a great game, and worth every penny, but being the veteran of the original myself, I'm also hard to please. (Same thing with Star trek, Star wars, Doctor who...) You always say that original series was better, although the new one is in every respect superior. Elite: Dangerous is ofcourse superior, and has the same mindblowing effect Original Elite produced in 1884. No argument there. My rant is I would just like it to be more challenging, and have more balance in different roles.

You may have misunderstood somethings as explained there, but you are right, the game is way too Harmless. I assume there is going to be a fix to this at some point, at least I have a feeling that people in general think that the game is too easy.

I am not highly ranked yet, maybe the content gets Dangerous when you have Elite rank? Or then not, but could be at least ok idea to do so.

Look, how it works.
To hunt elite anaconda.
You are goint to the first system in list, in few USS (1-2) you will meet quest updater, which will say exact destination.
Then in this system you will find your target in 1-2 USS.

For pirate, traders, autoriry, bounty hunters first you go to uss, to update quest (happens in 1-3 USS).
Then for pirates you going to beacon, and hunt them there as many you need. This one is fast.
Traders and bounty hunters harder, need to go to anarchy/empty systems, and hunt them in USS. This can take long. True.

Black boxes / rebel transmissions are fast also. In 3-5 USS.

Most time consuming is to bring some illegal and stolen regular goods, like coffee or narcotics.
This requare totally random smugglers hunting in USS.
But usually timer for this missions is about 20h, and it can be made in regular USS bounty hunt - smuggling runs.

Be more imaginative if you are going to smuggle illegal/stolen goods. I have never been caught so it works for me, its not a problem with the game but the player.

I agree with op.. combat is easy - with npc's.

I know"Elite" is not a measure of skill but a measure of how many times you can stand to do the same thing over and over again but Elite Anacondas should be hard - you should have to chase them to other systems as they try to run away at the very least.

I also hate the whole "stolen goods" mechanic. Going silent into stations is stupid, I've just requested docking permission! very stealthy!

Agreed. You should be able to salvage cargo you find in USSs and yes the whole 'silent running' thing is an odd capability that doesn't seem to actually have much logical use or application at this stage (maybe it will get expanded on in the future though). As you say, the station knows you are there and the cops patrolling outside the station can see you visually (silent running is not a cloaking device). Even the manual says that you can be detected when in silent running by a good scanner and/or being really close to whatever might scan you. I'm sure the cops have the best scanners you can get otherwise they'd be rubbish!
