Please show me your Galaxy Map Key Bindings for us CV1 Users - Slightly confused

Hey y'all,

I am trying to figure out on how to use Rift and Galaxy Map. I originally did map some keys to the Xbox Controller but I could not select the items. I could move left and right and then I mapped one of the joystick axis to go up and down. But on youtube and forums i hear it works well in Rift (kinda) but what are those settings.

I have removed my key bindings and trying to figure out this Galaxy map mess with controls. Super confusing.

My joystick is Thrustmaster Hotas-X and I also have Xbox Controller which came with CV1.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

I use a Saitek x52 pro but should be similar to your HOTAS. Joystick controls camera axis, x/y. Hat on throttle controls panning of the selector. pinky trigger on joystick acts like a shift key, when pressed the throttle hat will move on the Z axis. works very well and is rather intuitive. These were the default x52 pro bindings from selecting the profile in game.

Thanks for the input.

I don't know what is going on. How do you select the star. I am just not able to select it at all. I tried all buttons. And do you have to properly align the circle selector around the specific star to select it?.

I have similar issue with my TM Hotas,I use the mouse to move around everywhere as it's quicker than the joystick then when i've selected my star I have to hold the joystick slightly off from dead center to allow it to select the star. Bit weird but gotten use to it now.

I tried using mouse in VR but I can't see it in VR at all. It is on my desktop screen and I am also using voice attack.

Very Frustrating issue this is.

I am having trouble with this as well. I have to take the rift off to be able to select a star, which is a real pain :(

And I have not yet found out how to plot a route whilst in VR.

These are my bindings (T.Flight X).

My goal was to mimic the flight controls as much as possible. Originally I had zoom bound to the throttle but found this interfered when switching to/from flight.

I use the hat with a modifier button for main cursor movement as otherwise it will clash with the up/down/left/right in the map menus.

Thank for posting it and I will try these shortly after work. How are you able to select the star - is there special key to highlight and select the desired star?

For me its just the same joystick fire button (using saitek x-52) I use to select anything in any menu, starport services for example. I navigate to the star I want using the joystick and hat switches which I have mapped similarly to others, then hit the fire button to select it. I don't recall whether I had to map this fire button anywhere.

Sorry not entirely helpful other than to confirm you should be able to use the galaxy map fine from within the rift using only a hotas (assuming you don't need to type anything ;) )

No it seems to be a black art :) You just need to get the blue circle cursor near the blue circle on the stem and it will snap to it, but the hard part is getting the blue circle/stem into view in the first place and so far I'm just using trial and error.

Hey Main Sequence,

Thank you for your screenshot. I am using it and I was able to select star systems when playing in Solo mode.

Hey everyone,

I got some good news. I did post a support ticket regarding this issue and I just learned that next update should have improved interface in Galaxy Map for VR users.

Here is the snipped from my support ticket

"we're working to make the galaxy map way more user friendly in VR. We hope to roll this out as part of our next big update"

I am demoing Elite to all my friends who come check out VR at my house. This is the game that everyone is flipping about it. The whole "space" experience is surreal.

Excited about the new update which will be coming soon.

And many thanks to Main Sequence for posting his screenshot - I can atleast do some flying now.

Don't use the mouse in VR on the galaxy/system maps, it's rendered on a different plane and subject to parallax errors when trying to select in 3d (it's fine in the galaxy map menu) - just use the selection circly and navigate it over your target, select as normal (bind a select button to mimic the mouse click)

Well that's very welcome news, thanks for reporting. On a related note I've been wondering if they will add gesture control to the maps - then again it would be a pain to have to pick up the hand controllers just to use the maps before switching back to HOTAS etc. - so maybe not such a good idea after all :) but at least we could have the option.

Hey Main Sequence,

How do you access the tabs on Left Window when the star is selected. The window which has all the information etc. I can choose exit at the bottom but I am unable to see the other sections of the Universal Cartography window.

Any clues. My setup is exactly like your screenshot.

Thanks

Just use the keys bound to UI U/D/L/R to navigate around the tab - so say if the "cursor" is on the 'Select' icon of the pop-up panel, hitting left will take you to the open tab. If the cursor is on 'Exit' you should be able to go up to access the other buttons in the tab. To switch between tabs used the same bindings as for the cockpit HUD next/previous tab.
