Please stop mission timers when solo players log out, so the game doesn't end up controlling our lives in annoying ways:
If your girlfriend calls, must you really explain to her, that you'll suffer significant losses of standings, money, fines, bounties, unless you play for another half hour / hour, whatever time it takes to complete multiple missions you took on for efficiency?
There are any number of real life surprises more important than a game. Sometimes, you might start a bunch of missions, only to find you're getting sleepy faster than you expected. All this would be no problem at all in offline play - you'd save your game and shut it off when you had enough. Then come back whenever you actually feel like it.
This is likely the reason why I have never seen a any online game where consequence producing quests were on a timer. Sure there maybe some race against the clock quests, but if RL forces you to break off in the middle, it carries no consequence, other that you start the quest again next time you have time to play.
.
Obviously, most of the drawbacks of having to play online can't be remedied:
- No actual game, just temporary permission to log into someone else's server as long as it pleases them to run it.
- No save game.
- getting logged out after a period of inactivity.
- Various server connection problems occur already in Gamma, leading to disconnects or inability to play at times.
- Server connectivity adds lag and delays to certain things you do in game.
- After the fact changes by the game developer that you don't like.
Many things that can't be helped, but this one thing could improve life with your game a lot for offline players who are now forced into online play.
