Please tell me how I died

Hello, asking for more help.

I completed a mission to clear scavengers out of a settlement. I killed the scavengers, and started looting. This required overloading doors to get inside.

Once I entered the power station, I received notices that my ship was under attack. Logs show it was my SRV that was attacked.

As I walked down the main corridor to the exit, I died. Instantaneous death, coinciding with my SRV exploding.

This base had a long hallway leading to the powerplant, so the scavs/commandos couldn't have gotten behind me. What the heck happened?

Could have been the drone/defence turret/soldier if you didn't put your shield on, it can go pretty quickly.

If I have to guess, you shot the scav with your SRV (or ship, but you talked about the srv). If you did, you took a fine (it's a no fire zone). When you activated the base, since you had a fine, the defence activated and targeted you and your stuff. I know usually a few drones pop and destroy the SRV while I'm still inside.

I didn't use the SRV to kill the scavs and did not activate the base. All I did was enter the reactor room to loot it.

Will over-loading doors at an abandoned settlement trigger NPC's to spawn?

But more to the point, I was inside when I died. Can the scavs shoot through walls?

It could easily be a glitch of some nature, god knows we have plenty.

I've taken to ALWAYS dismissing my ship, until I'm ready to leave, as the ship warning might not be working. The manned SRV blowing up definitely killed my dismissed ship once, but that was refunded as a glitch. And is probably fixed now?

Only thing I could imagine killing you and the SRV simultaneously would be if you're close to it and it gets dumbfired.
But I guess that would be obvious in the logs?!

My guess would be that the game simply is designed that way. That is, if your SRV gets destroyed then you die with it - as you do when you are in your ship and it gets destroyed. I would suggest that if you are out of the srv and it gets destroyed then the game considers that you have no way of recalling your ship and so death is inevitable as you run out of oxygen. No point in delaying the inevitable really - just do it and get on with the game. It's like when you destroy a mother ship which has a fighter deployed - destroy the mother ship and the fighter dies automatically along with it.

This is false. I lost my SRV more than once while on foot and did not die with it. Also lost my ship more than once and did not die with it.

Are you sure though? Maybe you're supposed to die with your SRV or ship, but it's bugged.

Agree, its why I now dismiss my ship and park my SRV away from the site. Got really pee'd off with not being able to dumpy my stolen honestly aquired loot in the SRV so I could go back and steal salvage some more. (Pre suit mod for more pockets)

That's an important question, OP.

You should go ask the guy with the beard down by the big gate. Peter is his name, if I remember correctly.

I'm frankly surprised he didn't tell you already. He's usually pretty good about that with new arrivals.

I tested all weapons during the Alpha by destroying my SRV, without hitting the death screen, so I’d guess the bug is with the OP’s situation rather than those of us who have lost our SRV without dying.

Can confirm you will survive your ship while in an srv. I mean, dying is inevitable but not immediately. Only after you run out of fuel followed by life support
