Pleasing passenger mission bonus

Just a little ray of sunshine.

Having dropped off a 'criminal mastermind' passenger, she offered a tip off on the complete mission screen. This was on the basis that "one good turn deserves another".

There was a message in my inbox with the planetary coordinates, and I'm on my way there now. I've done a lot of passenger missions, but it's the first time this has happened.

Nice one, FD.

:)

So you decided to come here and tease us with this....!

Now I have to sit here in the office wondering whats taking you so damn long to get to a planet and find whatever it is you find... or finds you! ;)

Looking forward to seeing some results...

Still not done yet?

Mod's, can we please get a competent pilot on the case please! :D

Actually wondered if I'd upst her without realising and this was her revenge!

Tis a nice touch though:)

Hmmm.

Supposedly I was meant to find a data core.

I found the exact coordinates, did a fly around, nothing visible.

Landed and used SRV to search the area.

Picked up a faint 'technology' signal. Followed it several clicks from the site.

Three skimmers and a stinger. No data core. Some useless cargo.

Not so pleasing, after all.

And that's it....

Not good enough Tom, you need to go back and look harder this time. I have cancelled several meetings and sent people home for the day as I was going to be busy marvelling at your discovery! It's this kind of reckless posting that delays games being released and patches!

How am I supposed to explain this to my boss?

This is such a travesty I may just have to open a rant thread with a poll and everything! :D

Options such as:

Should Tomp go to Specsavers?
Tomp should go back and look again until he finds something!
Who is Tomp?

Or, just maybe and I have a growing feeling this may well be the real reason behind you not finding anything...

This brings up and interesting point/issue...least for me. And it always seems to be an issue which is why I never do tip-offs or "extra" stuff.

What would be considered a worthwhile find?

In "real life", and in most games, two tons of gold would be awesome but here - when I can pull my trader up to most docks and load up a hundred tons of it - two tons seems quite the anticlimax eh?

So what would be good?
A big pile of money I suppose. A crashed ship where you could take the modules? Engineered modules perhaps? Rare mats?
Don't know. But currently I have never seen or heard of anything that makes it worth the bother.

I'd have settled for the data core described in the message. :(

Out of interest, what was the tip exactly?

I had a few the other day and the systems and planets were all mixed up.

It was a tip to scan a data core on the 3rd planet in Mant. No mission icon on any of the planets, but I gave it a go, as it was a tip off rather than a mission.

Yeah those were the ones... Can't remember if it was all three tip offs were for Mant but with bodies from other systems or the other way round.

Like this..

Either way I think they might be duff tip offs.. Sorry.

Hmmm - yeah I got one of those tip-off missions once (not from a passenger though) - found the data core eventually amongst some wrecked ships - worth a million or so credits as I recall. Might be worth having a more thorough look around *in an SRV...

Yeah the gold price sucks in 3302, in 2016 that 2t of gold would be worth about £75,000,000. I guess it's all those pesky miners going around zapping it out of rocks.

I'll spend longer next time. How far away was the data core from the coordinates given?
