pledge allegiance and then changing mind?

ive only been playing for a few month. i run fron TUN doing cargo missions for the federation and bounty hunting at the nav point and combat missions at conflict zones in TUN. not really knowing what i was doing i pledged allegiance to winters and i am classed as an ally to the federation now, i also unlocked my SOL permit. now my question is can i un-pledge and not be part of any faction but still keep my permit for SOL and my credits i get for running cargo for the federation which is about 1.5mil for a 14ly jump in my current 96T cargo ship.

thanks

Correct. You can unpledge and your rank and permits stay with you.

Heck, I have been Imperial for a long time and I am a Federation rear-admiral. I have all the permits and ships privilege, and I have killed more feds than I could count...

Power Play only matters to Power Play, nothing else.

Powerplay allegiance has nothing to do with system permits or assets. You can change your powerplay allegiance at any point, if you wish without your money or ships being taken from you. However, depending on your rank with your pledged power, mercenaries may be sent after you. Additionally, being considered an ally of the federation really has no impact beyond how some npcs treat you, and maybe some missions. Hope this helps.

What Akimu and Colossus said. Just bear in mind the cooldown period if you suddenly decide your new faction isn't for you...(no flip-flopping!)

my reason is because i enjoy the missions and combat but i like the idea of piracy so i am assuming not being tied to anyone is the best option?

Correct - that'll give you the best operational freedom.
(Although it's always nice to have a 'home system' that your 'Allied' with (but without the PP ties)

thanks. i shouldnt have pledged in the first place. too much assuming from me at the start and thinking it was a requirement.

tbh I did the same thing. But within an hour or two I got rid and haven't bothered since. I might dip back in at some point, but frankly, for most things in ED it's more hassle than it's worth. The system has merit, don't get me wrong, but reading between the lines of what you've said you should stay away for now.
And yeah,I get you might have thought it was a requirement (certain other games force you into choices like that) BUT for the way you want to operate right now, additional PP hassle is something you should avoid.

Power play interdictions have been toned WAY down... So, power play isn't too much of a hassle. Being in other powers territory doesn't do anything. You can still dock. You can still pirate. There are just other mechanics for what you can be doing with the background.

Search power play in these forums or Reddit. Lots of info. Is power play worth it? Too me, yes. I haven't been too involved recently, but I made my first billion while pledged to ALD. I did what I wanted to do while pledged... And killing Feds is fun :D
