Plot Route Bug?

Every time I try to plot a route to a distant star, it's red and unavailable.

If I manually add different stars using 'plot route' and move the galaxy screen around, I can eventually get the 'plot route' option to become available for the star that was originally unavailable.

Is this a bug? sure seems like one. Or am I missing something critical?

I think there's a limit to how far you can plot away for performance reasons on the server, maybe they'll relax this a bit over time... Seems odd though that you can plot a route to a really far away star by first plotting to an intermediate star. Sounds like a bug if the behavior of the distance restriction is not consistent.

I think it is just a performance issue....it just takes a while to calculate all the possible routes up to that 100Ly range.

Maybe its because you have the settings wrong, or that the ship you are using just does not have the jump distance for some of the jumps required by the jump settings made by the auto course.

What you could do is try something much closer and see if you can get there. I had this problem until I upgraded my FSD, once I got over 12 then I didnt have a problem

You can plot routes up to (and slightly beyond, in my experience) 100Ly if:
1) You wait a long, long time for the blue lines to extend out far enough.
2) You have the range on you FSD to make each jump.
.
The calculations do take a long time to get out far enough. Not totally sure why. I appreciate it is doing a ton of calculations with potentially 4 billion systems, but I'm fairly sure it can be optimised to be a lot better than it currently is.
.
Personally, I think it should only show jumps to stars within a single jump range by default. Then when you select a star you want to travel to, it should calculate the route to that star only, not every star within 100Ly. It should be able to fairly quickly start discounting certain routes as being inefficient/wrong direction and get you a route to any distance a lot sooner than it currently does.
