Engineers Plotting a 5K LY route for Palin - help please

Can't easilly get to the Horsehead nebula right now, too many permit locked systems around it + it's straight line distance, not distance travelled that counts to unlock Palin.

Oh. Ok.
That´s sad. I did the Horse Head Nebula with a DBX back in 1.3 and was a blast.

Thor´s eye is at 4.2k ly. Is a nice location to go and sightseeing, plus black holes. And then is just some 800ly more and done. Shouldn't be more than 2 days at a very relaxed pace.

Whatever you do, do NOT travel away from the core to the outer rim for your 5000 LY. I did... it was my 1st trip out so far but I was confident as I had my 59LY jump range Conda kitted out just for this mission. 1stly I ran into many gigantic permit locked zones of space which really slowed progress down. Also, your jumps are very zig zaggy due to limited star density making progress even slower(even in my Conda). Sometimes I would only get a 36LY jump on my route!

Eventually I made it and unfortunately ran outa fuel 2.9kly from home. - I blame beer and series on my 2nd monitor. I called the fuel rats and they promptly responded. The fuel rat brought a 41LY asp and set out to come rescue me.

With the permit zones and spare stars it took him 5 hours to get to me! It was however awesome to watch the rescue unfold and I am forever grateful to CMDR F1rools22 for coming to my aid.

Love this game <3

What im saying is.... make a beeline for the core to do your 5000LY for Palin.

Thanks all *cheers* There's some great insights here and I'm now strangely looking forward to the planning and preparation, rather than it being a chore.

Good luck Cmdr... o7

...

I'm now 8000lys out. Sitting between the Heart and Soul Nebula's.
Not a single hitch. Quite literaly flew straight out here... Probably 80% of stars have been scoopable on my course. Only once had to look for a suitable scoopable on the map. Not a single permit locked area yet... Wish there had been some hitches LOL, it's been worryingly easy, something will bite me on the backside now, I hope :D...
Turns out my many weeks of Rare trading and long distance hauling paid off! I'd think nothing of flying from Tionisla to Fehu before. This is no different, except far fewer dangers and no stations.

Onwards!!! See how far I can get before my trigger finger gets too itchy and I turn around...

For the more experienced explorers, I've got an engineered Anaconda 'armed trader' build with a 32ly jump range (when empty).

Will a 32ly jump range be fairy painless? I've heard the Anaconda drives people mad as it's so slow to manoeuvre in super cruise.

Really dreading this, but want the Dirty Drives G5 as then everything will be maxed out...

Howdy, a 32Ly Anaconda. That's 156 odd jumps. Round up to 175 for good measure as not every jump will be a perfect 32ly one. Now, if you jump honk a system a minute that's 3 hours out and 3 hours back. Should be fairly painless if you set a few waypoints with nebula and interesting stuff to see, try find something you've never seen before like a netron star or a black hole or something.

Yeah it's a slow beast but it is possible, I spent 8 months in the Conda cockpit and become strangely attached despite still loving the nimble little ships. If you are deliberately scanning planets then yes you'll probably want an Asp of even a DBX. If you are travelling distance that class 7 fuel scoop will help as will the jump range.
Hit up Farseer if possible to engineer your fsd, even a level 1 upgrade for 1 wake scan data piece can give you a 5% range boost which is nice. My barebones fuel rat conda got ~7% with 20 rolls and is now at 45Ly range which would make the 5kly trip in just under 2 hours, less if I really burned hard jumping.

Head to somewhere like the Lagoon Nebula or Cat's Paw nebula .... they're doable .... i did them back in March with a 35Ly conda and i am a reluctant explorer.... had intended that trip to take me to the core but gave up at this distance :)

5kly jaunt

I'll likely take a 5k jaunt out myself soon. I need a change of pace. I'm in no rush to get Palin unlocked, but if I can do something and take care of some engineers stuff at the same time.. might as well. My play time has been rather light unfortunately... while the game is a lot of fun, the Engineers for some reason hasn't pulled me in like I thought it would... so I'm doing engineers as sort of a secondary thing. I play the game as I like and let the engineers stuff just happen in the course of things.

I've seen a lot of great suggestions out there for destinations. I'm eyeing a trip out to the Rosette Nebula with a stop-off at VY Canis Majoris. That should net the 5kly required. I may go a bit roundabout for an extra 1-2kly so I can keep away from the beaten path in a sense.. or who knows. I may extend the trip and dabble around. My last jaunt sometime last year was like 2.5k ly, but rather than coreward I headed more outward and passed through the Veil region.
