Plotting Map

Given the number of explorers we have, and the number of EPIC expeditions going on; what we need is a Large Format (5600 x 5600 or better) HIGH RESOLUTION, full Top Down copy of the ED galaxy map. It would be awesome to have some highlights such as SOL / SAGITTARIUS A / and most known nebulas pointed out on this map. This would be a tool for plotting out our routes (after the fact) to show the progress of our journeys.

If such a thing, or anything similar exists, please let me know.

Creating a 2D galaxy map automatically is non-trivial and would require access to all the coordinate data. So far, community efforts on that front have gotten to about 500 systems. So unless Frontier allows data-mining, or does it themselves, don't expect to see a full 2D map of the galaxy any time soon. Or ever.

Im not talking about anything like the flattened eve map. All I am wanting is something like the galaxy map zoomed-all-the-way-out veiw, top-down, in large format. And without the navigation pane on the side.

Why don't you just use a normal, artistic rendering of the Milky Way if all you want is a zoomed out view of it?

Something like this

or this

for example?

You want see any system or star names from so far away, anyway, so you don't need to rely on ED material, do you?

You can use ED and deactivate the grid in the option tab. But top down... not quite possible yes.
Except FD released this before the galaxy map was available :
