I would like to add to this thread and say that it is very confusing for a new player with a DS 4 gamepad to see the buttons named JOY1, JOY2, JOY12, and so on. At the same time XBOX gamepad owners see the propper button prompts, so why are the DS 4 owners at a disadvantage here? The game claims to have "native" support for these controllers, yet it doesn't provide the right UI icons to represent the buttons, making it almost impossible to play, especially for newcomers.
Also, when I tried to create a similar thread in the Suggestions, it didn't get published and the modders deleted it.

Just choose Default Context in the settings menu for the controller. it matches the PS4/Xbox configs & should display the correct button symbols.
ds4 playing elite. will not work.
however there is a work around. program DS4windows is free and it fools windows into seeing it as a xbox controler. works great i use it! use 360 control bindings.
another way is to install steam and add elite to games in steam via (none steam games). steam comes with a DS4 bindings.
