Point Defense : How they work?

I have my power managed at 100% and go after select Wanted Targets in High RES but they will not fire what so ever.
I have tried changing positions from roof to rear but nothing. Outfitting asks me to assign a Weapons Group but there is no Point Defense listed there. I had seen a Youtube tutorial on this before and it simply suggested all you need is to get close to a Wanted Target.
I can't find anything on this now.

Point Defense shoot at Missiles and torpedoes that at fired at you automatically. They've saved me a few times on my old Viper in PvE combat.

You should read the description for the modules that you buy. It tells you that it only defends against missiles/torpedoes, it's called a "point defense" after all.

I see now. Somehow I got the impression from a video of a 'conda with 4 auto-firing beam lasers. He stated they come on when you lock onto a Wanted and will not fire on Cleans. What is that weapon?
The Fire Group messaging is messed up. Point Defense does not require one. Neither does Chaff as it has a keybinding. It needs fixing.

Turret weapons on a non-Utility Hardpoint will fire based on how they are set up in your Functions tab on the Right menu.

There's a difference between Point defense (set on your utility mount and which fire at missiles automatically) and the turreted weapons which you've seen which take up hardpoint space.

Hopefully better than the used to when they were bugged and had their funny 5 minutes on take off in a station!

Although saying that, it was short lived for you & your ship :p

I can understand the confusion. Turrets are a good point defense, but they defend against ships. They're great for large ships that don't turn quickly. They're awesome on a type 9 when someone interdicts you.

Point defense will also open up on hatch breaker limpets. A while back I'd been interdicted by a cmdr pirate and noticed repeated messages about a foreign object attaching to the hull, while my PD ammo went down. After making good my escape I confirmed that I'd not actually lost any cargo or taken damage to my cargo hatch, so I'm led to presume that the turret was blasting them off the hull.
