Point defense

Can someone walk me through how point defense systems work? I have 2 of them on my type-6 but they do not seem to do anything. My chaff launcher works just fine, but i can't seem to put the point defense thing into any fire group in order to use it. Any help is appreciated
Point defence is automatic. They work as long as you have them powered, they have ammo and they can see the missile
Go into a combat zone or anywhere there is missile spam.
The point defence will automatically shoot down stuff heading your way.
You dont need to put them in fire groups as they are turrets and automatic.

They'll automatically engage any suitable Target that is within their Range and within their angular limits depending on position on your Ship (Mines, Missiles etc.).
they'll also have mass in 1.2 - previously they added protection for no mass penalty for those long jumps

1 - Find someone armed to the teeth with missiles
2 - Sneak up behind them and kick them in the nuts
3 - Run like the clappers
4 - Look over your shoulder and watch your Point Defence Turrets automatically shoot all the incoming missiles
5 - Giggle hysterically, still running
6 - Rinse and Repeat for extra giggles

@OP: Substitute 'kick in the nuts' with 'throw with large pebble from safe distance' in point #2 and you'll be good to go.
