Point of multiple prospector limpets?

Just bought a brand new Anaconda; end goal is fully outfit it for combat, but I don't have the cash for that yet. So it's a mining vessel for now. But I'm wondering: what's the point of larger prospector controllers? Is there any reason to use more than prospector limpet at a time? Is this just for mining multiple asteroids at once? Whenever I've mined in the past, I usually have to search for a while between asteroids before finding one worth mining, but I haven't mined in pristine rings before. Is multiple prospectors pretty much just for pristine rings where it's easier to find quality asteroids?

It's useful if you're picky and only mine specific metals. Being able to deploy several prospectors at once allows you to find what you're looking for faster as it takes limpets a while to reach distant asteroids.

With the conda's slow-ish speed and turning speed, I like to line up several consecutive/adjacent asteroids. They're further apart in rocky/metallic asteroids, so by the time my prospector hits the first, I have got 2-3 tagged also and am close to the first.

I found more use for the multiple prospectors when I was mining in the T9. I'd just spin around in one spot, tagging all the nearest asteroids.

In my Anaconda, I prefer to be boosting (grade 3 DD gets me 340 m/s, wheeee) and prospecting asteroids with a nice shape (round, minimal spin). Once I find a good one, I boost around the rock, flip and come back to it from the other direction. With 12 collectors running, I can stay on the move. I find mining like this makes it more fun and is the only reason I do it that way :p

I've never needed more than one active prospector in either a Conda or a T9. But multiple prospectors would be very handy in a belt cluster. With enough prospectors, you could tag every roid in the instance, which would make mining clusters much easier.

Can you predict/choose which prospector limpet expires first now?

It used to be bugged/random which meant for me there was no point having anything other than a class 1. With my mining setups I don't normally have much time to prospect while the collectors are working. They've normally nearly finished by the time I have depleted the roid.

I don't think this is true actually. If you use the right technique you can scan more quickly by strafing past asteroids and hitting them at close range with the prospector as you pass, you can prospect many rocks quickly by doing this. Bigger internals are better used for more collectors. I have 13 collectors on my mining Conda and just one prospector.

The only instance in which it might be nice to have multiple prospectors is when you're sat by an asteroid waiting to collect, but of course if you have a lot of collectors this isn't for very long..
