From everything that has been seen today, the Alliance looks to have been wasting its time for no reward.
For example in the last week or so there have been 3 Alliances Community Goals, and the global rewards (not participant personal rewards) for each of them have been shown to be pointless. First - the Diamondback goal. We got a discount on a ship that doesn't seem to be worth more than 1 Mill credit, so either the 20% discount is worth buttons or the ship won't be worth the cost. Second and third - the 78 UM goals relating to Halsey's visit. Since Halsey never made it to 78 UM, what's the point? If those goals had failed nothing would have changed.
Then there's the reports from the 1.3 beta testers. Instead of the ship we'd hoped for (an Alliance equivalent to the Fed Dropship or the Imp Clipper) we have a low price bracket long range fighter. I'm sure that some newer players will get use out of it but "combat explorer" she ain't. Additionally the only Alliance Power in Power Play is supporting the Prime Minister, a man who advised the increase of the security in 78 UM that led to the Green on Green community goal. We're told that getting the Alliance upper echelons to agree on things is damn near impossible, so where are the other cabinet members in Power Play?
It feels like a real chance has been squandered and that the Alliance players have put a lot of effort in to things that would never, ever have had a chance to go anywhere.
