POIs - nothing there?

I've landed on a good few dustballs now and found plenty of Points of Interest (POIs). Blue circles, and I land my Krait right in the middle, deploy my SRV and find that there is nothing there. I do my standard search pattern of an ever-widening spiral from my ship, but nothing appears. No settlements, no crashed ships, no abandoned factories, no landed Wanted ships, anything.

I am normally pretty good at mining planetside POIs; I have done many in my time. However, recently, I have done this completely fruitlessly maybe 20 times. On oonly two occasions has there even been a neutral ship flying around, which I suppose could have been the item of interest...

There is another point too: I am looking for a total of 25 Escape Pods in order to satisfy an Engineer (is it Broo Tarquin?) and I am carrying two at the moment.

Could it be that the system 'knows' that I am after these items, and is therefore denying me them? I had heard rumours that the game system tries to make things harder by trying to deduce what you are after, and denying you an easy catch. But a) this could be rumour and b) why remove all the other interesting items too?

Or am I just being unlucky? Any suggestions greatly appreciated :) Thanks.

[Edit]: And I suppose I should also ask if anyone else has been having this problem? It seems to have been happening since the update over the weekend, but again that could be coincidence...

Interesting, thanks for that. I have not really used the SRV scanner routinely but I did notice that on these excursions where nothing showed up, the scanner was just showing blank. It was working; I know this because when I was pointing towards my landed ship, a nice strong signal appeared for that. But nothing else.

What I will try, though, is landing away from the centre of the blue area. Cheers :)

Etienne Dorn, actually.
I do ride planets to collect mats. Because I like driving. I prefer rather flat surfaces though. And it is preferable ringed gas giant to occupy half of the sky. So it is possible find the pods on a planet, sometimes several of them stacked. Usually guarded by skimmers. It could take some time, just drive and follow signals on the sensor.
