Are you happy to be another player's victim

Just curious as to whether anyone actually finds this enjoyable or positive in any way? Being pulled out of SC by a vastly superior and combat optimised aggressor ship by a player who shoots without engaging in any comms. Not my idea of how I want to invest my hard-earned leisure time.

Happened to me twice, now. First time my Cobra pulled by a Clipper. More recently in my Asp pulled by a tooled up Fer de Lance. Neither time did I have any chance of winning the ensuing fight, but both times managed to escape.

Commence the discussion...

It's guff when they don't say anything and great if they actually interact. I guess you can't get everyone to start talking to each other, but I do feel it would be a lot easier for everyone with pre-defined messages you can send just by pressing a button.

Why? The question is pertinent to the PvP debate but is separate from the Open vs Solo vs Groups debate.

Because the search function works and because, and you should know this well enough Mr. Moderator, this will devolve into a conversation about PvE/PvP which takes place quite a bit in the Solo/Group/Open thread without repercussions from the staff.

Unless and until there is a thread that becomes *the* PvP / PvE debate, these aspects of the game continue to be discussed as they arise.

Player interaction, by default, means that you won't get to enjoy every encounter.

If some second commander dropped into your wake and saved you, would you consider it a good interaction? Why? It doesn't change the intent and goal of the first commander.

You win some, you lose some. The point is having that extra that you won't be getting from NPCs.

Do I enjoy getting assassinated from murderers, mmmh, probably not. Do murderers and pirates enjoy getting interdicted by getaway wings designed just to waste their time? I don't think so either. A community comes with conflicting interests and there's no changing that.

I don't think many would argue with me if I said that the mode discussion thread is also the pvp/pve thread since the two are so closely related, especially given the contents of the thread itself.

The fourth incarnation of the thread does seem to have taken a turn towards discussing PvP / PvE recently.

Most of those threads have been taken up with some players wanting to restrict the freedoms of others (by the removal of one or other core game feature) or otherwise reduce the effects of two of the three game modes on the single shared galaxy state - and riposte from those who are more content with the game design.

PvP/PvE is also intertwined in Community Goals and Powerplay - all gameplay really. It is a thread that runs through the multi-player fabric of the game after all.

You escaped.

/thread

Take it to the PvP/PvE argument thread.

Whoa there. Whether I escaped or not is irrelevant to the question in hand. Let's not lock the thread just because you feel like it. My thread. My poll. Keep the discussion open...

I don't know how to vote on this one. I've had fun going head to head/ganked, win or lose. Bigger ships, smaller ships, whatever. I can't imagine calling myself a victim though.

I very much enjoy the idea that a player can attack another player is he so desires, kill him and face the consequences.

What I do not enjoy is the complete lack of consequences for such an action. What is the bounty for murder, 6k? Pff, that's beyond laughable. With a smuggling run worth 30mil which can be done in a few hours, you can virtually buy 5000 PKs, that's enough to last you a lifetime.

When Sandro introduced the new crime mechanics I loved the idea he proposed: make criminals take a huge risk in the systems where they are committing the crime, by having a legacy fine there. That way players can still have a choice to PK, but there are consequences to how much they PK. Currently, legacy fines can easily be bypassed by not docking in a particular system, not that they were big enough to deter PKs anyway.

You could say the same about being pulled by an aggressor combat NPC?

Personally, I disagree with that sentiment entirely. To me, it's all about when and where. In line with '84 Elite, NPC interdiction in E: D observes the logic of the galaxy, while player interdictions do not.

Take from that what you will.

So in effect you are agreeing with me that the Solo/Private/Open thread, due to the way the discussions move from one topic to another while staying primarily focused on pve/pvp and the various modes available to players, is a good place to have a discussion about players ganking other players in open? Correct? :p

Maybe I should have worded it better.
.
You started a new thread for a topic that has been a point of contention amongst the forum-going Elite Dangerous community since it's inception... ..because you wanted a poll?

I find being blown up by a player extremely rare when it does happen its annoying
.
BUT
.
Its no more annoying than dying at the hands on a NPC
.
AND
.
Its a WHOLE level of annoying lower than me being stupid and crashing due to stupidity or my co pilot Ron Bacardi or Jack Daniels
