Aww, I was kinda hoping to see more people post about what country specifically they're from as there's a huge cultural difference country to country, even if they're in the same continent .-.
edit: WHOOPS didn't answer the main topic
I think the idea is nifty. kinda like the pokemon go thing, but I see how it could be problematic for some. For instance, what about the ends of our playerbase? we have a lot of CMDRs who aren't exactly spring chickens, and I'd wager that quite a few on the other end still depend on mom and dad for transportation and I doubt that they'd be too thrilled to go driving around because it's for lil timmy's space game.
Besides, if I'm out trapesing around looking for things that may or may not be there, how will I have time to atomize pirates? ;D
There are a lot of votes for Europe. I'd be interested in knowing whether those are true Europeans or players from the UK.
As an ex-pat i'm just thankful that where i live and where i'm from are both part of the same continent, otherwise i wouldn't have known which to vote for.
...or visiting a real-world location that may have some significance in Elite Lore (if there is any, I'd have to brush up on the books)...
You can probably guess how I voted from my avatar.
I don't think there's terribly much as far as "real world" places mentioned in the lore you could go to. The lore states that much of the Earth's surface was destroyed by man-made cataclysms (war, global warming, etc) during the 21st century, especially the cities, which were subsequently rebuilt. As the Gazetteer entry for Earth states, "the landscape has changed beyond all recognition since then". Though this may have simply been an explanation of why most small-and-medium-scale real-world geographic features (such as the Grand Canyon) were not visible if you flew over where they were supposed to be. I seem to recall one of the stories mentioning Paris still being largely unchanged, but much of London was underwater and New York had been levelled in the war and that site too was entirely underwater; I seem to recall one of the Earth starports in FE2 was "New New York", and it was a floating city some way off the coast.
