With a huge influx of beta backers, where have you come from?

Did you find Elite at E3 or the Bafta gaming event or are you a disgruntled SC backer or have you been here all along. what brought you to the game that is credited with being the first sandbox game?.

This should be an interesting poll to see the results of. For me, I played Elite and Frontier way back when, but never played First Encounters. Been itching for 'Elite IV' for a long time so when I noticed the kickstarter how could I refuse...?

I see many beta backers who were kickstarter backers but only now coming active, its like post kickstarter all over again.

None of the above. Stumbled upon it by searching up elite and finding GPL Frontier and OOLITE, and then finding E: D...

Now in Beta enjoying it immensely - still in a Sidewinder, still struggling to make enough cash to reliably deal with docking issues and trying to stay out of harms way...

Not exactly sure how I found Elite: Dangerous, but it was when the Kickstarter campaign had just begun. Not sure how, might have been looking for Elite on other systems, Oolite or something else Elite related.
However, since our money was very tight during Kickstarter, I could not pledge, so I really jumped at the Premium Beta once our finances were repaired. Haven't regretted it since, I'm having a blast in my little Sidewinder with the two Gimballed Pulse Lasers.
I love Elite ever since I played it on the CPC back in the 80's, also played the PC version, Elite Plus (my favourite maybe) as well as Frontier and First Encounters. So hearing about E: D really made a dream come true.

None of the above.

I had dropped out of gaming all together due to RL issues. Had a decent rig which had previously contained a faulty GTX 570 that had been replaced under warrantee but I had never got round to fitting. TBH was on the verge of selling the PC and all my gaming peripherals as it wasn't getting used.

Saw Elite Dangerous just as it was coming to the end of Alpha and it stuck in my mind, the original BBC B version being the first game that had really 'captured' me. Ended up watching some YT vids of the game, then onto the FD website. Bought a copy of PB, put the PC back together and off I went.

Since then I have upgraded the GPU to a 4gb GTX 770 and my Trackir to a version 5 (my previous 3 Pro did require you to have the curtains closed to use effectively !). Love the game and the prospects of more to come.

None of the above.

I was an Elite and Frontier player from way back in the C64 days (BBC Micros never made it big in Australia). My brother is one of the Alpha backers and when he mentioned it to me I signed up on the spot. Looked at SC and it's visuals may be a little prettier... but... "You had me at 'Elite'" :)

I used to occasionally browse frontiers forums looking for news of Elite 4. Then it happened, I spotted this word 'kickstarter' and I had no idea what that meant.

Needless to say, after some frantic googleing I found the kickstarter for E: D and minutes later my wallet was a couple of hundred squid lighter. :D

Brilliant!

I was browsing the net to see if others thought Kickstarters search/category handling was sub-par, and found an article. It mention Elite: Dangerous being on KS, and to this day I have no idea what article it was...

The search and category handling is better now, by the way, but still not good. :p

I saw it on some gameing site the kick starter that is then i saw ED in early alpha no cash at the time but i`d have to admit i did not believe that DB would go the distance im sorry to say as much as i hoped he would so i kept looking in every now and then and as soon as i saw people multi player dog fighting i was pretty much in well that and waching davids video as he talked about his new baby and i could then see that yeah hes got the fever to build it

First started Elite on the spectrum 48k on to the c64 then amiga elite & frontier and (er dont throw stuff) but freelancer and Xseries on pc until now of course,er does anyone else remember a Amiga format april fools spread about the new elite that was comming out a double page afare pictures and all with planet landings walking round space stations anyway i fell for it big time gutted when i realised, but here we are and i have to say im pretty excited to fly out into that unknown :D

Had to click on the "Found ED on some gaming site..." Not quite my case, but the closest I could find.

I'm not a hard core gamer. I found ED via YouTube and had to go back and live my younger days.

I went for "I backed Elite and SC but this is my home.", but that doesn't tell the whole story.

My Elite story began when I played the original on a school friends BBC Model B, and I then had to wait impatiently for its release on the Commodore 64. I spent many hours playing that.

Then fast-forward a few years and I was playing Frontier on my Amiga for many, many, many hours. Sadly I never played First Encounters as I didn't have a PC.

Much later, I ended up playing EVE Online as I hoped it would turn out to be a suitable Elite substitute. Sadly the lack of actual flying in the game meant this wasn't the case and I ended up getting very bored of it.

Then I heard about the Star Citizen Kickstarter and thought that it could maybe turn out to be a good Elite substitute, so I backed that (for probably too much money). I'm a little concerned about this one now, as the combat in the DFM is not much fun at all. Hopefully they'll fix it up over the next few months.

Then the Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter appeared and I immediately backed it, but couldn't afford to put as much in as I'd put lots into Star Citizen already. But in the end I upgraded to Alpha level, and am seriously loving the progress and vision of the game.

I came from BBC and Archimedes Elite straight to ED. Had a brief flirtation with Frontier et al. but didn't like them at all.

Heard about the Kickstarter because I was backing another totally unrelated project (for titanium kitchenware if you can believe that) and it appeared on the site.
I'd run the odd search for something to do with Elite, I was really looking for one of the original pin badges. I didn't get one because I never sent in my card :( Anyway this came up and I was completely stunned to be honest.
I thought it was a mistake and that some corporate studio had gotten hold of the rights to MY game and was making a new one. Which of course would have been a disaster because it would have been like all the other rubbish and boring nonsense they make.
I really couldn't believe that DB was involved and that the idea and vision seemed to be so pure. It seemed to be the thing I'd always wanted.
Which was a massive red flag.
So I had to make sure.
After much reading and investigation it was pretty apparent that this was the real deal. DB and his team were going to do this properly. And by properly I do of course mean something along the lines of exactly what I would have wanted if someone had given me a magic wand to wave.
It was honestly like a dream, like a wish coming true.
I was a bit strapped for cash at the time as I wanted to open my wallet and let all the money fall into the FD coffers. But I did keep my head screwed on and decided that the most important thing for me was to find out of this was in fact going to be done properly.
For that I needed to be able to see what was going on, which meant DDF. Everything in the pledge layers above the DDF seemed like fripperies to me. The DDF allowed me inside so I could see if it was being done properly, rather than being handed early versions upon which I could have no input, however miniscule. Such as the Alpha and subsequent phases, which have been completely awesome by the way.

So that was it.
I saw a dream and I had to get inside just to make sure it didn't turn into a nightmare.
That would, frankly, have been more than I could bear.
But the dream is here. It's taking shape, and thus far it's perfect.
My contribution has been infinitesimally small, but I was there.

I am a backer of the kickstarter. My experience in FE2, prompted me to become a backer, without asking me of questions. I have learned that Ed was planned when I searched Elite IV, in Google (once or twice per year)

I voted for "I was here before it was cool, Kickstarter" but there should be a special category "I kept the faith - I was one of the 12 disciples who were here BEFORE the Kickstarter"

It's OK, the 12 of us know who we are :D

I saw it pretty early on in the alpha stages but had no intention of shelling out the money for it, premium beta seemed like a sweet deal so I finally hopped in.
I'm still waiting on shelling out the money on a rift and a good flight stick to make the game complete though

Aorn Archimedes, some big acorn event in Central London around the late 80's? First release of the 62 bit version I think, lots of people getting very excited anyway, big screen in the middle of a dark space with my first view of that iconic radar. Game came in a big VHS style box with the game on a 720k disc and some code system for logging in that asked for a page, paragraph, word from the manual. Loved it then, loving it now ;)

I played the original on the BBC B way back in the last century when I was a kid. I didn't have sufficient funds available at the time to get into the alpha but got into the beta the second I had some money because I've been wanting a 21st century version of Elite for years.
