Laptop or desktop or?

I have voted for the Something, something, something, in my opinion the Something, something, something wins everytime, its as powerful as a watchmacallit and as portable as a thingymagig but as cheap as diddlydaa.

you can keep your laptops and desktops as ive seen the future and its brown.:D

Same here. I have a Clevo too :D
And a price tag to match! I've read that SLI doesn't deliver twice the juice, and can have compability issues, so I'm steering clear of those rigs.

Same here, I was just surprised to see two GTX-780Ms squeezed into the machine.

I'll be going for the lower spec single GTX-780M model, which is quite a few hundred quid cheaper. And will probably drop in price once the 800 series is released.

If you are going to build your own PC, I suggest getting a SSD for your OS and games and then a separate sata drive for the rest of your stuff.

A SSD means your PC will start up twice as quick and accessing any game files is a lot quicker than a sata drive.

Gotta luvit! :)

So a laptop with a gtx770m, or 780m should be quite capable, no?

770/780 would be just about perfect - more than enough for elite (and nearly all contemporary games at 1080p and reasonably high settings).
You *might* have issues running Star Citizen, but they currently have extremely poor optimization, so don't focus too much on that.

(I've got a 760m, and 770m would be the next step up ;) )

The poll seemed a little vague. I assumed that it wasn't "Which machine would you prefer to use on a train?" and more along the lines of "What are you running ED on?" :)

Desktop for me. I never game on a laptop, although some of the systems we have been buying at work recently, like a Precision M3800 and an XPS 15 could do it quite easily.

Did anyone see the Gadget Show this week? Apparently the desktop is dead, assuming that's the case (pun intended) I think we should have a poll to release PS4 first!

building a PC is far from rocket science, all the slots are colour coded and its not as if you can put anything in the wrong place.

my one piece of advice is dont skimp on the case, yea sure a £30 enclosure will do the job but you'll find you need a big box of sticking plasters when you come to fit everything as there isnt a lot of room and are a lot of sharp edges on those cheaper chassis.

For me it has to be a big ugly case. What I'd really like is a walk-in cupboard sized case.

Thanks Kroy. That thing looks snazzy!:D

Got to be careful with some HTPC cases like that.

They may look kind of nice - but they often have very poor cooling and custom power supply sizes, a lot of which won't give out enough power to run a gaming rig of any description.

I've had big gaming laptops which cooked themselves, really I'd suggest a modest sized tower you can hide in a corner someplace.

Linen closet converted into man cave.

Desktop needed due to this game.

Wife can use laptop.

Maybe look into putting one together.... never tried it before. In fact I bought my first mobile phone a couple of years ago.... purely for my work. I have no techno ability, except on the dance floor.

Could be messy...

Wow never had a gaming laptop fail on me after two years, but that's because I didn't jack the graphics settings too high. Also it's worth mentioning that cooling pads don't really work. My wife has an old Dell laptop (It's about 6 years old now) and she play games on it just fine (We both play Diablo, It's just fine for that).

I wouldnt recommend using a laptop for gaming though, unless you like the sound of a boeing 757 taking off in your living room. Took the leap and bought a nice desktop this year so that my Elite: Dangerous experience wouldn't suck. Best decision ever.

For the best bang for your buck, a desktop gaming rig is the way to go.

However, I travel for work, so I'm using a laptop. Its a 15" Clevo 150SM with a 780GTX graphics card. Its been playing Alpha flawlessly (except for standard Alpha bugs) so I'm very happy wth it. At home, its mounted as a desktop, with a 24" widescreen Dell monitor and runs my X52 HOTAS joysticks just fine.
