[Poll] What do you play as CMDR?

Very cool, my answers submitted.

And, just to post them here:
Cobra, occasionally my Viper. (My Sidewinder, Hauler, and Adder are a couple hundred light years away collecting dust.)
Beta
Bounty Hunter, Trader, Explorer
Federal so far. Currently in a border area between Fed and Empire. I like hanging out in the anarchy and independent sectors in the area. I really should move to an area that has a Fed/Alliance border. I think Alliance would fit my personality more.

I'm running a survey about what role CMDRs play, what they fly, and how long they've been flying for.

The survey can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1a-DYY9Ca7VJQHwxs-8BD9YGUkgo-w93nAKck05GZJ4M/viewform

There is no profession of smuggling in ED. Sometimes you have to smuggle things into stations but the act of acquiring them typically defines your profession. If from other now dead ships, it could be pirate or bounty hunter...or you could be the garbage man from USS's. But since there is no way to purchase and sell to a black market to make a profit, smuggling doesn't exist.

There are smuggling stats in the game though, and missions to kill smugglers. I assume they're bugged just like the kill trader/bounty hunter/system security missions.

I spend most of my time doing missions. Not sure what role that would be given that it's a bit of everything.

The list of roles was based off the five found on the wiki, and I have added some when they where chosen by multiple players.

The addition of the What Mode question was after i received 500 responses. That should even out a bit, and i'll compensate when i do some deeper analysis on the data

You two CMDR's that pilot the Orca I salute you. I am still keen to buy one really quick and fly to a Tourism station and see if anything special happens.

Interesting that there's such a lack of pirates! Although I suppose there should be more traders than pirates. That makes sense.

That's a good observation about the black market mechanics making smuggling impractical. It does make one solution spring to mind, though - if a ware is illegal at a station, the black market price should double or even triple (as things tend to do when they are declared illegal.) If it's legal but you acquired it illegally, you still have to go to the black market to offload it, for slightly less value than it would normally be worth at that station (the discount being because it has "I WAS STOLEN" written all over it.)

It is quite simple.

I haul a cargo of "battle weapons", bought legally and bring them to a system is ruled by the Feds for example. If they scan me they notice it is illegal cargo. Their stations have them forbidden and won't buy them

BUT voilá... there is a independent outpost in that same Fed system that actually buys them right under Feds nose.

That is smuggling.

Completed. It would be interesting to see how many CMDRs have multiple ships. I don't sell mine and have a Sidewinder, Freagle, Adder, Cobra and Lakon 6.

I have two myself, but that's basically because my main move was going to be to a Python which could 'do it all'. Now I'm kind of stuck in a system as there's no way to move my Clipper and Asp without a dumb ship I'd sell and take a loss with, plus I don't like being tied down with having multiple ships. I'd much rather have a great multipurpose and just change the loadout.

I don't know, man, 10% of people being pirates seems like kind of a lot, actually. I like your thoughts on black market values.
