Flying with no shields is like driving with no brakes. You can do it, but it makes it difficult to avoid potential disaster.

i still run with shields but in a smaller slot, the extra cargo room comes in handy and the downgrade compaired to getting rid of them means i can still survive minor collisions.

No shield

No shield for me.
1. In the peripheral systems where thegood routes are, there are not that many player pirates / killers.
2. Repairs to T7 from bumps and scrapes are dirt cheap and more than covered by proift from extra 16+ cargo.
3. If you're very concerned you could put in a small shield for scrapes / landing / AI intercepts.

Cheers!

A heavy landing in a T9 costs 1% or about 20,000. Lightly tapping the bars on entry to the port cost 50% hull or 1,000,000 in repairs.

Being hit by another ship while trading luxuries cost 70% or 1,400,000 in repairs.

I put the shield back on after that. It really didn't make economic sense to travel without them.

I run with no shields in my Cobra when doing rare runs. The re-buy costs are low with a Cobra and the no shields make interdictions much more exciting :)
