[Poll] Would You Like More Management?

No to player owned stations or factions. No to things like owning factories.
I wouldn't mind a more extensive system of contacts though.

In short, this game should remain a tactical game. Make that experience richer.

I never want to see any management things in this game. I just want to fly a spaceship not worry about internet video game politics.

There are lots of games out there, where i can manage stations, build empires, be the chosen one, own fleets, emerge as the hero of space...
I love to play large epic scale games where all the story crushes down on the one and only me as the protagonist, but Elite is not this type of game. Its about you and a ship, probably about a few friends of yours, a band of mercs, about discovery, freedom, your every days fate in a reckless galaxy and how you turn it to your advantage using wits and skill. So why change a game to something that other games already do very good? Let this develop into something new.

I would absolutely love player owned sectors.

With the universe having billions of sectors I think there is more than enough room for it.

I envisage the universe in a constant state of flux; AI (both aliens and factions), clans, independent players and pirates all vying for territory. I want territory to be hard to hold by players and that the costs of holding the territory means they have to be open to trading (or the system falls into unrest and eventual anarchy if they keep it blocked off with a reputation system so players know if that system is good to trade with). The powerful AI factions would actively try and take the territory back off the players (if the player territory is in the way of a faction front expansion). Independent traders and AI faction players would also be able to influence the outcome too such as taking part in combat against player systems or lobbying a faction (with credits) to attack the player systems.

I'm not at all interested in them making this game more like Eve. I would much rather see them fix current bugs and stick to the original plan. Also, not going to bother with the poll since you could have made one here in the forums.

I think this could be nice, but it would need to be limited. No hiring NPCs, no corporations, no no no. Maybe you, and 4-6 friends (Maybe a max of 10) could put together a huge sum of credits (At least a billion) and create an outpost in a new system. You could create a faction, but it wouldn't be feudal (no expanding) and perhaps some other limitations of the sort. For commodities, there would be very few, but you would get better prices on what's there (which would be depending on what type of outpost you built, say, mining), and outfitting again would be limited, but with a discount on all items. What I'm getting at is that outposts will serve a very basic gameplay function, and more to show players that you have money, a base (Maybe no negative rep for you, ever), and a very nice one at that, because we would be able to paint it with decals as we do our ships, and as the pirates do with their outposts. The outpsts will be centered on roleplay and very little on gameplay.

Forgive me, I just ranted on the thoughts passing through my brain, no organization in that paragraph :)

EDIT: We would also be able to upgrade the basic outpost into a specialty base, as in a refinery for a mining outpost, outfitting and fences for a pirate outpost, and so on.

Original games never had player owned stations and we don't need it now.
No need to copy off other games either as Elite has always been focused on the single player experience.

I could see using crew as ship enhancements could be quite cool. You could hire a gunner, for example, who would increase your accuracy with turreted or gimballed weapons. Different levels of gunner (from novice to master) would give different levels, and with experience they could move up levels. You could similarly have navigators, engineers, and whatever up to the crew limit. But given the complexities I'd like to see it as an expansion, where they can put the entire system in place rather than drip it in piecemeal.

As for player-made stations: I have 0 interest in it myself and don't see how it is possible to allow players to realistically build any infrastructure of the size of a station. The costs would be in the trillions and the work that FD would have to put in to coding it for the one or two people who might have enough to build one is disproportionate to so many other things which could be done in the game.

So much hate on Player owned stations / outposts...

The stations wouldn't be like they are in EVE Nullsec with sovereignty and all the other mechanics involved for them. It could be a simple outpost that is yours, it doesn't make the entire star system yours to rule....just a place to call home, doc and store crap.

Nice ideas IMO.

For a sandbox game it really doesn't give you much if any sand 0_o .
