Would you be interested in playing a redesigned true MMO (only) version of Elite?
One without multiple instances and a true server client system.

Obviously it would require a separate new team to rework the network code from the ground up to change it from Peer to Peer into a traditional server/client system)

It would also definitely require a monthly a subscription fee to maintain servers and continue development.

Presumably it would have far larger capacity for players in a single system/station (640+) and systems would not have split instances but rather every player would be put into the same system or station (until the new higher max player limit was reached after which they would simply get a message that the system/station full and the route cannot be safely made until other players leave and make room/space)

One aspect, the "player driven" element would obviously be much more of a focus in such an MMO version as true blockades would be possible and empire building (owning stations/assets) would presumably be much more relevant and included.
in this light other forms of gameplay would also have more meaning as smugglers (who run blockades) would have to outwit actual players rather than simply go cold and fly past the AI.
Lone wolf mercenaries could also be employed by player groups with a system of group bounties.
basically there would be room for many style of emergent gameplay.

Though I -like- many mmo's and don't mind paying Subscriptions to those I -really- like (Everquest 2 and Old Republic) , I'd ..not be able to swallow the idea of an mmo only Elite game.
.
I'd Accept it if they made it -seperate- from what we have now

yeah that's what I meant when I said "new version."
a separate version not connected with the current form.

Only if it was to serve creating an incredible dynamic persistent universe simulator. Just to remove instancing in game but have it as is? no.

If this wasn't a criteria, might've voted 'yes' (tentatively), but having read that part, a strict "no" resulted.

I think that the people who prefer the current system would agree with you, those who want more player driven game however would not so it all works out in the end.

No, because I honestly think they've hit on the right structure for a space setting with Elite. As much as I enjoyed playing EVE, it's massive fleet battles and blockades came at a heavy price; player interaction with the server had to be a very minimalist sort of thing. That's why it's an executive-level kind of experience. Twitch-based anything was out the window.

A traditional MMO with a space theme is bound to be either fairly hands-off, like EVE, or cheesily simplified and small, like Earth and Beyond.

Put the list of successful subscription MMOs in one column. It won't take long. With the time you've saved, list those MMOs that started off as a subs model and have either died or went f2p. It is a very, very long list.

One of the big draws for me was no monthly subscriptions. If there was, even though i love Elite, i doubt i would have bought into it. In which case, I would have only bought it if in parallel they released a single player version of the game. I don't like monthly subscriptions for the simple reason I tend to play games for a long time once i'm into them. I'm probably a game publishers nightmare. I don't jump for the latest version of a game just because they released version X+1 with shiny new graphics or whatever.

I'll support EDs further development by purchasing skins and expansions.

And yeah, as Ani said, empire building and stuff, and i guess forced PvP would have come in with that (Open mode only), then that would have been another no sale reason for me as well. Its another reason i stay away from traditional MMOs. Too many basement dwelling teenagers playing those who have a need to show off their epeens.

Overall, i'm very glad FD didn't try and make this game first person EVE. It brings something different to the current traditional online market, and I salute FD for trying something different here.

Your poll is .

You don't give any proper responces except the ones you expect.

This game is not what you think it should be. Just leave now and save us the hassle of dealing with your whiny posts in the months to come.

Thanks.

Ah, the 'no true Scotsman' attack is always a winner! Presumably you also have developed your own personal gigabit internet to support the backend, cool!

I think the the current model would work just fine. And they should start selling in game advertising on the billboards out side of stations. Imagine a McDonalds sign showing a cyber Big Mac next time you pull to the station.

With that revenue they might even be able to offer content expansions for free.

Ugh... McDonalds would drive people off the game faster than one can say 'cat'. Anything else, thanks. And I want in-game adblocker if RL ads are to be added.

I'll attempt to answer this in a polite and civilised manner, something that you have clearly not been taught how to do (simply because you're on the internet and anonymous it does not give you license to be rude)

I made the poll to gauge the level of interest players would have in such a model, I actually enjoy elite as it currently is however I do hope they add much more content and find a fix for certain issues, that being said I would also love a true MMO version and from TS discussion I've had with guild mates, so would they.

Just curious as to the level of interest.
I'm not hating on the game or attacking it, simply want get some information from the community.
The fact that your response was so vitriolic speaks reams about your general level of maturity and is sadly an indicator of the level of discourse on the internet in our modern age.

I would recommend you take a moment and think about how you interact with people in real life and then try to follow a similar approach online when discussing issues.

You can speak about my general level of maturity when you get to know me. Until then, be quiet about such subjects.

My opinion stands.

How about making a poll where some of the the answers are not negatively weighted? (ie option C has the only negative weight in any of the responses).

Thanks

Yes because right now it will last 1-2 month and be over. hell a lot of people i know quit because of grind for no reason. AI is no fun killing, they spin in circles..
