Poor lock on G1 Beam laser, should I swap to cannon?

I treated myself to a G1 Beam laser on my Sidey but compared to the Burst Laser the lock on it is terrible. Is this expected, should I swap to cannon, if so which the multi or the big boy?

Hi
My advice? ditch gimbled all together. Use fixed beams, more powerfull and more involving then gimbled.
As for kinetic weapons, if you want to equip kinetic wpns, i would go 1 laser 1 gun. Kintetic wpns don't do well vs. shields and cost money to rearm. Cannon shells are 40cr a shot, I'm not sure how much MC shells cost.

Fixed MC's can track targets as long as you aim your fire via the sight reticule. Fixed wpns out perform gimbled wpns considerably (30% in beams IIRC).

Experiment, if you don't like a wpn, sell it and get a new one. YOU DO NOT LOOSE CREDITS ON SOLD WEAPONS.

Rinse & Repeat.

Happy hunting.

Which laser version you bought? Fixed, Gimballed or Turreted? Fixed fires straight, Gimballed can auto lock targets in front of you (if you are close enough) and the turret can fire even in weird angles. I've kept to lasers when i was in a Sidey but you can try multiple approaches. A combo of laser-multi cannon is nice too. Never forget that thermal weapons do very damage to shields and kinetic to armor. About the cannons: the multi fires faster and hits more (the gimballed version is very popular) since it can dish out some decent damage to hull and targeted subsystems. The big one is, well, a cannon. Single big slug. Guives great damage to hull but it's slow.
