Newcomer / Intro Popular systems / stations?

Hi all. Obviously new to the game, just getting my bearings. Slowly upgrading my Eagle (fuel scoop's coming up next! Trying to extend the amount of time I spend bounty hunting at nav points).

I think I'm around Dalton station (I forget which system it's in - but Federation area - and it's one of my starting areas). Are there "popular" stations that more people hang around because they have more stuff available? Like a well stocked shipyard, good weapons etc (I'm assuming those change based on the station). I like dalton because it has a shipyard and a blackmarket (not that I would ever sell stolen goods).

Tangential question: Is there a location that talks about the different factions available? Not that I'm at that point yet... but I like being armed with information!

High-tech systems have better outfitting options. (And some high-population Industrial stations.) There are literally hundreds of good systems, some of which have stuff that others don't.

Everyone is a bit scattered, with some pockets with a lot of starting players, like LHS 3447 and Eranin. I tend to hang around Lave myself.

Major factions are Alliance (upwards from Sol at Alioth), Federation (centered at Sol), and Imperial (downwards from Sol, centered at Achernar). There are hundreds of minor factions.

Thanks! Out of curiosity, where is that fancy station you see when you first start the game? (I believe it is dodecahedron shaped?)

That's an old school Coriolis starport it's actually an old design.

If you want popular system look to these (and surrounding areas)

Lave: Where the original Elite started
Sol: (Permit required) seat of the Federation
Achenar: (Permit required) seat of the Empire
Alioth: (Permit required) seat of the Alliance
Eranin: Where Elite Dangerous Beta started (lots of people still fly around there).

You're not far from me. I'm currently one jump away in Eravate but I started in LH3447 (where you are). I've spent the last few days jumping between LH3447, Eravate, Potriti, Yakabugai, Chamunda, Apoyota and Kremainn.

Im at Dalton Gateway as we speak! Going hunting in Kremainn very shortly :) Dalton has lots of hardware for the Viper, which is why I keep coming back

I think I'll end up moving away from the dalton and surrounding sectors shortly because there are so many CMDRs sitting at nav bouys bounty hunting (they take my kills! Sort of)

How do I get these permits you speak of?

Near you guys too. Currently been hanging around the Kremainn area, primarily based out of Wohler Terminal. Can't say I'm quite as law abiding as OP, there are some good black market station in the area, just have to find them.
