Ports are killing wanted Cmdr`s?

Is it normal that Port`s are killing wanted Cmd`s?Had not seen that before.Had a 200cr Bounty on my Head and was instandly dead.

Wanted = Shot on sight if scanned.

You got scanned by the Sec forces close to the station. Station will respond to Sec forces requisition of lethal force.

Tip: if you need to pay bounties go to outposts or make sute you enter station un-scanned.

Yes this is normal, they will only kill you if you are scanned by a police ship on the way in and don't get into the station before they open fire.

If you go to an outpost to clear your bounty make sure its not a military one. Those scan and kill you just like the big stations.

I run in empire space and occasionally get the 400 cr bounty for winging a police ship, but I have never been killed by the station for going in to pay it off.
Yet another way the Empire is superior to the Federation.

So what they are essentially saying (if you are new to the game) speed into the ports as fast as you can to avoid scans if you have a bounty or stolen cargo on you. Make sure you request docking when you get close to the entrance but try to line yourself up from a distance to go in hot and immediately reverse thrusters (hotkey/button the 100% and -100% engines), don't even worry if you overshoot your landing pad, just get in then go back around to land if you have to. The AI won't be able to scan you if you make it in the letterbox (if you are playing on Open players still will but they can't shoot you in the no fire zone without risking their own lives).

But if you are an experienced player I'm sure you knew all of this already!

There really should be a possibility to pay (small) fines directly to a system authority vessel. It's just annoying that you can get killed when you accidently hit (not even damage) an npc who crosses your line of fire...

Agreed, but in this case you just know to go to an platform to not risk it.

I don't think it's just port authorities, though. I think if any CMDR scans you with Report Crimes enabled (by default it is) then you will be ... muerte.

Fortunately a fix for accidental fire is coming soon, so that's one less mistake that can get you killed later.

If you are wanted to the controlling faction, then yes, bang, dead. But you can pay off anywhere, and if you look on system map, clicking on a station will display the wanted sign beneath it. :)

I just turn on silent running when I'm trying to dock while smuggling or dodging a bounty I can't pay elsewhere, line up with the station entrance just outside the sec ships' scan range, turn off flight assist and boost once. Then I just coast through the forcefield, turn on FA and kill my speed.

Then get owned because I forgot to ask for docking permission before doing all of that.

The other factions will do exactly the same thing if you have a scan complete and are wanted there.

I have an untested theory that your reputation affects whether a station will attack you for having a fine (not a bounty).

I played for weeks in federation space, went to stations to pay off fines all the time, never made any special effort to avoid being scanned, and was never killed by a station. I was Allied with the Feds.

Then I moved to Empire space where I was neutral, picked up an accidental fine, flew to a station, and got blown up.

I find it highly unlikely that I avoided being scanned every time back when I was in Fed space - I must have paid off fines 20-30 times and never made any effort to avoid the scans, it seems that perhaps it's more than a coincidence that the first time I was killed by a station for having a fine was after a move to a neutral station.

I find that having friendly relations with a station (or higher) seems to reduce how often you get scanned going into the station... I have been scanned by friendly stations coming out somewhat often but rarely going in... maybe its the smuggler in me though because I tend to line up from 7km and then fly at full speed for the slot...
