Posh "Gatamaya" Exploring

I feel the itch to set off into the black again.
I have previously ventured out in the Hauler, Adder and T-6 but wanted a more refined float about this time.
So, I'll mothball the Conda and blow the dust off either my Clipper or Courier.

But which one?

Courier
Clipper

I've not spent much time in my Courier. Last time I tried fuel scooping with it I got a tad hot. Is this still the case?

From a cockpit point of view I would favour the Courier. It's a bit nice in a Rift. But is it feasible as an explorer?
The Clipper can fit a "star catcher" Class 7 scoop, but I've never tried it. Again is it feasible or will I just make myself all crispy?

What a nice dilemma to have. Especially on a slow day at work.
Any thoughts anyone?

My first thought was to replace those D class powerplants with A class. They are much more efficient and run cooler than the D class, so you'll have less of a problem overheating. That being said, I believe that there's still issues surrounding the Courier overheating during scooping.

The only real 'problem' with using these for exploration is the size of the fuel tanks. The small size means that you'll be scooping at almost every star or you will run out of fuel. If you're going somewhere where there are very few scoopables, this could be an issue, but adding extra fuel tanks will then take down your max jump range. If you're heading to the core and aren't in a rush, this is no biggie. But if you're heading across the gaps between spiral arms, or heading above or below the main galactic ecliptic, again, this could be problematic.

But at least you'll be comfortable :)

The Clipper does not have great jump range, but at the same time it is not affected by the extra fuel tank that much, so you can just fit a big fuel tank, and a huge scoop, so you don't have to scoop too often, and when you do, its over in a second, if you just want sightseeing and don't care too much about reaching a point in the fastest possible way, the Clipper is a solid choice. The cockpit has a perfect unobstructed view.

The Courier has that extra jump range to reach more dificult systems, but still not as much as an Asp or a Conda, and the fighter cockpit feels good, doesn't have the unobstructed view of the Clipper but it just feels good. The main downside is how often you will be scooping.

I briefly tried posh exploring in a clipper. Its completely impractical for long trips though. Sold up and bought an Asp. This is still a step up from my last explorer (a cobra). In fact, I'm really loving the Asp. Amazing view from the cockpit, massive fuel tank, huge jump range. What's not to like? The clipper was pretty, but its small tank and relatively short jump range soon started to annoy me, and I turned round, sold it, and started my trip again.

Depends where you are going and what you want to do? If you are just bimbling around or going to the core either will do, if you are doing some extreme exploring, you may want the better jump range.

Good points all, well made.

What do I want to do? Dunno really. "Go that way" about sums it up. So I'm not too fussed about min/maxing the loadout. I think.

Think I'll drop the Courier idea.May stuff some fuel tanks in the Clipper.

But now thinking that an Asp purchase may be on the cards. It's not one in my collection at the mo.

And I cant be bothered retrofitting the Conda, it's a fairly expensive job.

And cheers Duckfather. I'll go for the A class PPs, forgot about heat, and heastsink launcher(s).
