Possible AI wing man

I've been thinking wouldn't it be cool to let your AI crew fly your ships or possibly give them orders to do a mission like trading you could only have 3 working at once or maybe one but as a way for them to be more useful like order them to do missions you've expected but they have a chance to lose your ship.

They sort of have with FCs. FCs break a few they will nevers. 🙂
I disagree. FC’s generally lose money over time. They can save the owner some of his/her time, by for instance, overpaying for Tritium. They can “buy low” at one location, then move to a location where they can “sell high”. But if you factor in the initial cost for the FC, the fuel cost (in mining time or over payment to buy from others) and the weekly upkeep, it’s very hard to turn a profit. At best it will take a long time to recoup initial costs and it’s far less income per hour or per day than even a modest beginner can get by shooting rocks, scanning salad, or a number of other more lucrative money making activities. So I say it’s not worth it, and none of the above are “passive”, in fact they need frequent attention. People buy FC’s for other reasons than making credits.

One can make some profit by selling rare and semi-rare unlock commodities to other cmdrs, but this is usually not enough to even cover carrier maintenance. My best was one summer when I went to a double bromellite hot spot near Coal Sack, mined 5,000 tons, jumped back to bubble and sold it at max price. It was gone in 30 hours. I doubt the demand would be nearly as high today, tho.

indeed, stuff like persistent cargo storage and in-system micro-jumps
But passive income - i wouldnt go there. Sure, a carrier with no services, so having only 5 millions weekly upkeep, can still sell stuff while the owner is offline, but it will require restocking and so on. So i wouldn't really call it passive income since it requires quite some effort from the owner.

Nope.
However, you can fly a SLF and let your AI crew fly your ship.
It can be fun to watch, but make sure you dont use a build that has ammo cause AI has absolutely no idea what ammo conservation means
