Engineers Possible Idea for Escape Pods

I was having this discussion with a fellow commander tonight (CMDR Rancorel) about how escape pods are an under-utilised component of the game.

Wouldn't it be really awesome if we could find escape pods and have the ability to bring the person out of stasis ?
Just because you can, doesn't necessarily you should.
Imagine rescuing a person and finding out he is an engineer who will tweak a module of your ship as a reward for not selling him as a slave..... or then find out he wasn't very good and instead of improving your module, he botches it up further ?
Or, wake up the person and end up with another co-pilot who owes you his/her life and will be your co-pilot for free
Or, have a guy pretend to be your co-pilot, only to discover once you've docked at a station that he's taken all or part of your cargo for themselves. Then you get a message saying "thanks for the rescue" or something irritating like that.

Possibilities, possibilities, possibilities.

So, do you run the risk or waking up the person inside an escape pod or sell him off as a slave ?

Hoping one of the devs get to read this and can see the potential is what is currently a minuscule part of the game.
