Possible solution to reduce griefing of new commanders

I raised the idea of new players spawning in random areas soon after I first started playing and the reason I was given for it not being implemented is that the starter system and surrounding area has been programmed to be slightly easier. So new players can get a feel for the game without being interdicted by powerful NPC's all the time. An explanation which makes a lot of sense. I don't play the pvp route, it's not for me so I play in Mobius and I understand that by playing in Open you could be seen as signing up for the risk. However to me an experienced player in a powerful ship killing a brand new player in a defenceless Sidewinder isn't pvp, it's not even griefing (A term which now seems to have found some sort of kudos with some players, proud at being a "greifer") it's simply pure cowardice. They can't beat a player of similar experience in a similar ship so go to the starter system to beat up the new guys. These are the sort of people who kick the ball away from children who are playing football in the street, or who knock ice creams out of childrens hands.

A quick thought on this. How about having player missions available in worlds near LHS 3447 for some form of mentor role, so they can make credits whilst doing it? Tie the mission in with having a decent ranking in any of the game areas.

Maybe you get a mission from a local faction : CMDR here in LHS3447 we have had a spate of damages caused to the station due to sidewinders hitting the walls. Go there and educate the locals. reward x credits for completion based on time spent and mission forfeit with a biiiiig penalty if you shoot a harmless cmdr during the time, together with a significant effect on your reputation with factions such that you become effectively a flying target anywhere within 50ly.

Btw, the original topic is depressing to me. In computer games you start out weak and you'll slowly learn how to become better and better. This has always been the case, from pong and pacman to today. But the last +-15 years or so there has been a trend to make games easier and easier, and people have become more and more allergic to perceived failure. Now people are upset every single time something happens in a game. And their solution? Complaints, demands and quitting. May advice: do the tutorials, read the manual, start in Open and stop being so weak.

Damn, yea. I also remember the first time i played pong. After just 5 minutes of playing a bunch of jerks came in, beat me up and destroyed the console... *cough*

Hrm.... Thinking of a nice exploit if high bounties are used already. One gets a free sidewinder and gets himself killed over and over . X Kills later the sidewinder player shoots down his killer and collects.... :)

Not that I would condemn this method, but in open mode it might be more difficult.
