Possible Solutions to Instancing and other Wing and Communication Issues

Now I don't actually know if this is the issue but it is worth checking if you have been experiencing similar issues.

So I hopped onto the MoM TS and noticed a player I hadn't recognized. Being a good Death I jumped into the room to introduced myself. He had been doing odd and end missions around our area and wasn't sure what to do. Well I was going to start to do some trade and asked him if he was interested in making some quick money. So off to the trade route we go. We realize he has enough money to buy a properly fitted trade T6 and things are going well.

Then come time for the winging up. Friend request goes through fine. Wing request doesn't. No big deal I have dealt with this before. Spam "test" message to him usually works...but it doesn't this time. Next is both logging to Main Menu and then back in. That doesn't work. We both try logging of completely...doesn't work. I get another CMDR to test the communication with and we narrow it down to it has to be something on his end. Communication between 3rd party CMDR works fine and so does the wing feature.

Then suddenly the new CMDR states, as he is logging off again to try another reset, that he is on Steam and has his Steam account set to "offline" mode. He wonders if that has anything to do with it.

Now I can only assume that this is a privacy feature on Steam that doesn't let people know you are online even though you are.

He switches his Steam account to "online" and suddenly everything is working. Instancing, communication and wings. It all works fine.

I can only further presume that him having his Steam account set to "offline" was blocking these forms of communication because according to his Steam privacy settings he wasn't there to receive them.

I do hope this is the root of many issues. I does seem that many of these issues coincide with the release of ED to Steam.

Personally I think the steam setting was a coincidence* however ask them to raise a bug ticket regardless.

*It was happening to the backers prior to the steam release which leads me to think the way I do.

Well there is an easy way to test it. We could break the wing. Log off and have him reset his Steam account to private. See if we can get any communication through to each other.
