POST BETA: Some things that are still wrong with E. D.

Quality of Life:
Open Play Instancing is still extremely bad. I know Multiplayer games are a new concept, and we run everything on 56k modems...but Multiplayer games shouldn't be this horrid.

High Grade U.S.S. Hunting... why is this still a thing? Why can't these Ultra Rare drops come from ships as well? i.e. imperial shielding should drop from the occasional Clipper/courier/iEagle kill.

Galaxy map needs more options.
-option for viewing locations of heavy traffic systems (for those who desire to be social)
-options for sending modules and ships to certain stations that permit such a feature.
-CMDR bounty hunters could use a criminal tracking tab. NPC bounty hunters can drop on you out of nowhere, when you have a bounty of 100cr. Player bounty hunters should have the option to hunt other players (similar to a stations top 5 bounties)
-Galaxy Chat. would be nice to be able to chat with other players who are in the galaxy, but not necessarily have to be in the same system as you. currently, players are almost 100% dependent on 3rd party software for help, finding friends, among other things game related.

Cargo Pickup... can we get a cargo scoop net for those that can't carry limpets all the time.

Module storage...it makes no sense that we can store 30 ships PER station. but only 60 modules total, in the galaxy.

Ships:
Corvette- hardpoint placement/convergience is pathetic for a warship. the C1's should be C2's and the C2's should be 3's. It's firepower capability should be beyond that of the Anaconda, yet they are comparible in almost all aspects.

Vulture- power plant is undersized. For a "proper outfitting", it is 100% necessary to be engineered. (apparently the powerplant was c5 at some point...please revert)
*these are the only 2 ships I could think of that really frustrate me*

Hardpoints:
C1 needs Plasma (Accelerator or Repeater similar to the SLF)
C3 needs Railgun, missiles, torpedo, mines
C4 needs Railgun, Frag Cannon

NPC Balance:
-ATR should be Corvettes, Pythons and Vultures Armed with LARGE & HUGE Railguns! (a module we have been waiting for!)
-ATR should not have unobtainable weaponry (ATR shouldn't have shield busting lasers if CMDRs can't) adding a Reverberating Experimental to a Large/Huge Railgun could potentially balance this a bit.
-Bounty hunters should not be able to find you immediately after committing a crime.
-Stations can destroy the ships in an instant...how about we get a warning shot and a 5 second head start before complete destruction?

PowerPlay:
-Merits received after the destruction of an enemy ship should be based on ship type and combat rank. (killing a Sidewinder should not award more merits than a Combat Fit Anaconda)
-Merits should be awarded for Enemy deaths in any system. More/less merits based on system's power status.
-Your Power Rank should effect dialogue from friendly power NPCs. Increased respect per rank. Playful banter/Trash talk if you are Rank 1.
-CMDRs should award more than 1 merit. Should be base on ship type and combat rank. I understand that this was exploited at one point, I have an idea for an easy workaround; the destroyed CMDR cannot award merits to the same CMDR(s) who destroyed him, more than once per cycle or 24hr period. (this should reduce the chance of Bullying and exploitation of the merit system)
-If a wing of CMDRs destroys an enemy CMDR, merits are split evenly
-If the CMDR was carrying merits, that merit balance (or percentage of) should transfer to the ship that destroyed him/her.
-Bonuses for full wing destruction (should increase competitive play)
-PowerPlay should be OPEN ONLY!

This beta started out very bad, but in my opinion, ended as one of the best if not the best ever. Why? Because Frontier showed us this time that they actually do listen! I'm going to cut them some slack in the next few months and hope they continue the way they've started this year!

If you give the Vulture a better powerplant, then what will be its shortcoming to balance is maneuverability, small size, big guns, and good shields? The fact that you have to give it some thought when outfitting one is a good thing.

Agree...

...and watching an FD video recently posted in this Forum got an idea at the complexity of making changes to ED, so have found some sympathy for the dev's when someone says "FD needs to listen, it's a small change". :)

As a cmdr who has used the Corvette almost exclusively for the last 18 months, I don't agree with your suggested buffs. 2 huge, 3 large and 2 medium hard points would be ridiculously overpowered.

What I do find a shame, at the moment, is the lack of AX in class 4 sizes hinders Corvette builds for fighting Thargoids. Hopefully that will change. (And as Singularity has been actively working against Aegis, maybe I don't have much right to complain about this either)

In a word.....no!

In a word I would say YES. Anything that involves being undermined by players should be open only so that players have the ability to challenge the oppressors first hand. Having your systems dismantled by people hiding out in solo is really flawed in my opinion. Realistically at the very least, when these things are happening then there should be a greater NPC response at least.

For example, a system identified as being undermined to the extreme could see a far greater number of power based agent wings, buffed wings that can pose a threat to the players doing the undermining.

But again, I do think that people who do powerplay should be forced into open play only because undermining cheap blows from solo defeats the purpose.

I'd say the same to some extent for CG's, since people who tackle them on open do so against odds and greater populations sharing the res sites etc. People on solo can hang about farming a zone threat free and get themselves right up there to the top 10 easily. In saying that, open at CG's is a laggy mess usually and red sites are so over populated that next to nothing spawns and when they do, everyone is grabbing at it to the pont of becoming wanted, which is a constant irritation. So that's why I only say to some extent. So this one will be better left unchanged really.

Yes please to those Corvette hardpoints. The balancing factor is power. There's only so much that even an 8A G5 OC powerplant can handle, or the distributor.

Those were the original specs, but they were quickly corrected as a "mistake". Personally I think the smalls look a little puny in their bays, but I agree 3 large is probably too much. Changing them to mediums wouldn't be game breaking imo.

i was long shotting with the suggestion for the 2's to be 3's. the 1's should be 2's though. and the convergence is terrible.

the existing 2's should be on the nose, under the 1's.

the currently layout almost forces the use of turrets and gimbals.

i have 4 railguns on my 1's and 2's... they only line up after 3k

I was hoping this was going to be a nuanced and well articulated post outlining all the ways beyond fell short of or failed to address the issues it was supposed to address, but this just looks like a personal wish list asking for even more balance breaking changes.

it most certainly has a wishlist aspect to it.

another wish would be to eliminate combat loggers like yourself.

Since this was moved to "suggestions & features requests"

i went ahead and through a few of my ideas out for additions to the game.

Thanks for the facts. There was of course that thread in Beyond asking for a free buff in FSD range for the corvette grasping for any nonsensical erroneous reasons such as claiming the corvette was weaker in combat than the conda. And the wishlist of this thread OP for buffing corvette hardpoints is even more outlandish. Due to the T-9 and T-7 getting some buffs as they were so unloved , somehow fueled the unjustified feverish wishlisting for already balanced favorite ships.

i actually very rarely fly the vette. because of the reasons i listed. i don't need it. the ship needs it. it's a war ship and is pushed aside in favor of the anaconda by most pvp'ers.

I agree with you. We should not be FORCED INTO THE OPEN when we want to play solo.

there is so much wrong with this mind set.

think of it like this, someone is stealing money from your bank account, but you can't do anything about it, because that person is anonymous.

why should Open players be forced to deal with a BGS that they can't influence properly, thanks to invisible players...?

I've heard it's actually the other way around from pvp comments of the corvette over an anaconda. conda has more exposed powerplant, thinner hull and is instead the choice for exploration and trading/hauling over vette. FD knows this to be true so they haven't indulged this wishlist all this time, plus the corvette can't be made that much overpowered over the cutter since the cutter is (currently) also the imperial top military ship for pilot federation cmdrs.

That said, I would be ok with the corvette getting some changes but only if there were tradeoffs and drawbacks in doing so in mind of balance with the other ships. Like some agility and maneuverability loss for the increased hardpoints or increased FSD range in tandem with reduced hull mass as well as reduced hull points, etc. The T-7 and T-9 straight buffs were particular cases where they were mostly unloved and unused with glaring deficiencies to the whole rest of the fleet which is not the case imo, with the corvette.
