I know, there's supposed to be a commander's log or something coming up in the future, but in the meantime, we are using pen and paper to make notes. It's not the 1980s.
It would be useful if the game marked the star and system maps with things we have discovered automatically (such as the little ship or mission icons) to indicate presence of black markets and other things.
In the meantime, it would be good if we could at the very least get the option to add our own little "post its" on the starmap, so we can mark important things (like base of operations, black market locations, places that potentially sell stuff you will need in the future.) Using pen and paper to play a game is way too 1980s.
