Post-mission ship outfitting woes. Leaving for some days...

Well, friends, it's one of those moments. I just accepted a passenger mission when I remembered that I'm currently running a spare 5E FSD, and my 5A range-engineered FSD is in the other ship. Well, no problem one would think. Just hop over to the ASPX, put the FSD to storage, get it back on the DBX.

But of course, no hopping over.. With passengers aboard you can't leave ship. And you can't disembark the passengers temporarily. And you can't put the passengers to store of course. You have to fly the passenger with that exact ship where you took the mission. And you cannot access modules on other ships (same station).

Face->palm. Need a rest.

Is it not possible to buy a better FSD instead of transferring the one from your other ship? Or is there no outfitting where you are?

Sometimes you can, it pops up as alternative destination of something else, I don't remember correctly, once you enter the destination system.

I'm not sure if it's what you're referring to, but sometimes when transporting refugees you'll get a message from a third party offering you more money to take them to an alternative station. It doesn't actually say they'll be sold into slavery, but it definitely implies that whatever it is, your passengers ain't gonna like it.

These days I make sure every ship I have has the core modules I want it to have, as module-swapping is a pain in the neck (and not very realistic). This means more work up front, as I have to engineer multiple FSDs (and other things), but in the long run it's worth it, at least to me.

It is possible. But, well, you know.. Imagine you just engineered a 5* A-grade long range FSD first time and want to put it on a totally stripped down DBX to make some supercharged 200ly jumps with very well paying passengers. And then you find out that you have to waddle into a neighbor system, penguin style, to buy another 5A non-eng'd drive, to not do what you planned, and do it slower, while investing money 'n extra efforts... It just took the fun out of it.

Ah sweet imagination, having some FD devs as passengers.. Seriously, FD, you make an awesome job, but sometimes I want you in my passenger cabins... ;)

You're so right. I wanted to be a Mr. Cleverbutt and save some money and effort, and ED taught me rules, again.

I don't see the outfitting as a problem, but I would like to be able to switch ships sometimes after I have passengers on board in much the same way that you can change ships with cargo in the hold. I remember the first time I tried to do that and thought how odd it was that I could swap ships with cargo aboard but couldn't do the same when passengers were present.
