Postcard from the top of the Galaxy

Not the tip-top, but pretty high up, toward the outside of the core region.
I was visiting a POI fairly high up above the galactic plane and while I was up there I decided to see how far up I could go.
The view from up here is spectacular.

This is from coordinates 2,684 up. I just did a quick course plot up as high as I could easily, without making an effort to go any higher.
Though the angle is still fairly shallow, you can just start to see banding from the spiral arms.

The strange thing about climbing up here is that the higher I got, the more anxious I got.
Being up here makes me nervous as if I'm experiencing vertigo from the altitude.
Just thinking about it now makes me want to get back down as quickly as I can.

I had a similar sensation when I climbed around that high to reach a nebula. It was wonderful and it DID feel like I'd better get down again in case "something" happened :D

It becomes really mind boggling when you consider, that you could also be all the way down and want to get up as quickly as you can.

till now i managed to get up to 2858 and i have my eye on a system at 2872 i will let you know if it is reachable and more importantly if it is possible ot get back from it

I used a couple of boosted jumps to go ~62Ly higher and over a bit so I could come down via a different path.
I felt much more at ease when the star density got back to normal and I could plot a course easier.
Somehow it feels better when you have a few stars above you instead of that empty black abyss.

I decided to take a look from the underside. 2,757Ly was as far was as I could go.

I have to say, my Anxiety level was significantly lower this time, though I was still a bit nervous. I was mostly worried about jumping too far and not being able to jump back, or running too low on fuel to jump back.

I love going to the extreme top or bottom out near the core, the views are always spectacular. I've already flown out there just to run around planets to collect materials, just for the view!
