Potential CPU bottleneck?

Ok so I'm sick of 45 asw with my aging 2700k @4.7 (like most of the time except some super cruise) and have ordered a new CPU mobo.
Don't tell the wife... It's 9900k bundle from scan pre over clocked to 4.9 on water cooling (my first time with water very worried tbh but they didn't do any 9900k bundles in air)
Will let you know what sort of gains I get

Just looked that bundle up - it should be an absolute beast!

Pre overclocked ?
That thing should run stock at 5ghz !

But yeah, you would want a monster cooler on that but it's not necessarily air is so much worse than water, in fact I would be very surprised if it's not an AIO, which thecnically is liquid cooling.

Well it runs at 5.0gz on 1 or 2 cores but only 4.7 with all 8 here is a picture to explain it better.

The loop is a Corsair Hydro H100x which apparently is covered by a 5 year warranty so if it leaks Corsair are liable for any damages which is good for piece of mind.

Hey again guys , got the new rig up and running and it's awesome - more of an improvement then I was expecting.

Before (with 2700k @4.7) I was struggling to get 45 FPS in Res site (and some station interiors) and thus experienced bad stuttering , changing vr ultra to low made little difference.
Now with new 9900k @ 5.1 on all cores (so far ;) ) it's night and day difference.
I'm hitting 90 in Res sites.! And outside stations which is amazing. In stations I'm hitting asw but that's fine.
Asw is also much less noticeable with this setup - less artifacts etc.
I would say I've gained at least 50% performance gains and on some areas (Res sites) FPS has doubled!!

Incredible. I'm one happy commander :)
For anyone on the fence about a cpu upgrade I would say go for it!

Also the aio cooler (h100x) is really good. Cpu is not even hitting 70 with 1.35v.

Good to see another example of how much difference the CPU makes! It is pretty amazing how much it can affect performance when often people say the CPU is irrelevant.

You really didn't mess about and got a 9900K too :D I'm a bit jealous! Under what conditions is it not hitting 70c with 1.35v? My 8700K gets far too hot for my liking if I go over 1.28v @ 4.9 but only when I run Prime95. In Elite it is normally around 60ish on my X52 Kraken. I'm kind of curious what a Scan pro overclock is like...

Well yeh I hadn't upgraded for 8 years so though I would go all in, and very glad I did. :)
Stock scan.co.uk oc (4.9 all cores @ 1.35 v) temps of under 70 with Corsair hydro 100x aio water cooler.
It ran at 5.0 with the same voltage but currently I have it sitting pretty at 5.2 (all cores) with 1.45v...(don't tell scan.co.uk!!) which sounds like a lot BUT my temps are actually really decent and it doesn't go over 72 Celsius.
I did tweak the fan profile for the radiator to go 100% fan speed at 60 which is fine as I use ear phones anyway.
Also managed to lower the cas latency from 16 to 14 on my ram with no problems so far :)

Happy with that for now. It won't boot into windows at 5.3 and I'm not prepared to put any more juice then that thorough it. I could possibly tweak it for better single core performance but the games I mainly play seem to love cores / threads so probably won't bother.

Nice! 1.45v sounds dangerously high but I don't know much about the 9900K. On the 8700K 1.35v is generally considered the safe upper limit; it's not just about temps but running high really high voltages shortens the life of the chip (from what I've read... I'm no expert on the subject).

I'm surprised Scan only pushed it to 4.9 on all cores; just turning on multi-core enhancement in the BIOS with voltage on auto would have got 5Ghz I'd have thought since 5Ghz is the turbo speed. I read the 9900K can get a bit hot so assumed it wasn't that simple but you have pushed it way past that!

Anyways enjoy.

You'll get different numbers depending on who you ask. No one really knows. Some say 1.35, some say 1.4, some say higher. A lot of people have been running their 6700k at 1.4v for a few years now and they still seem to be doing okay. I would be pretty nervous about 1.45v as well, but if temps are low enough I think it might be okay. Current draw is also important since too much of that can kill a CPU even at not so insane voltages.

I backed it down to 1.38v and 5.1 GHz. Not worth the risk ;) also should be fine during the summer etc with these temps
