Revised 6/28/25
There are a very large number of dinosaurs in the game, but sadly one of our most distinct is severely underutilized. The Compy suffers the problem not only of its size, but a general lack of interesting behavior to justify its existence. While not alone in this regard, for such an iconic species I feel we can bring it more up to par.
A Unique Compy
The Compy like other Tiny species should be guaranteed these traits in order to operate within the confines of this size class.
The Compy like its compatriots in the Tiny class can now freely traverse your park unimpeded. Other species will generally ignore the Compy save for some Small Carnivores that enjoy a nice treat as well. This should improve overall visibility and the likelihood the player is willing to just make a ton of them and let them wander around.
Robust Fencing
This brings us to how to manage these little guys. Sometimes you might want to limit or increase the boundaries you want them in. Maybe you don't want them near your guest at all, or to have them only in some enclosures. By default most fencing is Compy-proof, but through some modular tweaking this may not necessarily be the case.
UnClean
This is a unique condition to the Compy specifically which turns it into a little hell-raiser.
Inspired from their role in the Jurassic Park novels, the Compy is a seemingly innocuous creature concealing a deadly threat. They are a living contagion which Unclean induces in select egg clutches. Being Sickly makes them an immediate source of accelerated disease contraction and in having a Large Appetite the voracious critters begin slinking towards food sources at a rapid clip. Inevitably their appetites leading them into being very high transmission devils.
This rapid transmission is further enabled by their innate Free Roam and Harmless traits and large social group sizes. They might expire quickly from these maledictions, but not before they have spread all over your park.
So, why would you ever enable Tiny creatures to free roam in the first place?
Park Hygiene
The answer is that they are useful. They are a natural clean-up crew for the implementation of a hygienic system into your species environmental needs. The system could then be later expanded to incorporate Guest needs. Your Star Rating is dependent on your Dinosaur Welfare which hygiene would be factored into. The Compy is a cheap and easily mass producible creature that doesn't impact the population thresholds of your enclosures. It eats carcasses, waste, and insects that can infect feeders that spawn diseases that harm your species.
This is a more comprehensive glimpse at a possible hygienic system:
The above hygienic system proposal is a bit in-depth, but it boils down to either using up your Rangers time to clean up the enclosures, or give a natural solution a shot. Compies are generally harmless unless you overlook their genetics, but there are certain conditions that can make them aggressive enough towards Guests. Lastly, in the future you could factor in hygiene into Guest needs and utilize bins and Tiny species for clean-up.

- Fencing
- Concrete - Innately limits movement
- Other Fencing - Chain-link prohibits movement
- Natural Enclosures - Inhibits free movement
- Robust Fencing Upgrades
- Access Door
- Grate (Security Rating 1)

This is a more comprehensive glimpse at a possible hygienic system:
- Dinosaur Hygiene Stat Added
- Component of Dinosaur Welfare
- Guest Hygiene Stat Added
- Component of Facility Rating
- Low Hygiene lowers appeal to all Guest Types (profit decline)
- Chronically low hygiene can impact Star Rating (guest count)
- Bins (Functionality Added)
- Guest waste disposal
- Placement flexibility of decorations
- Place in high traffic areas (path heat map)
- Corpses
- Can no longer be airlifted
- Compies can contract and infect corpses with diseases
- Ranger Teams can remove corpses
- Cooldown timer until corpse removal
- Ranger Team is unavailable during cooldown period
- Dinosaurs can attack/disrupt corpse removal refreshing the cooldown
- Happens regardless if Ranger Team is merely damaged or destroyed
- Dinosaur Defecation
- Lowers hygiene if not cleaned up
- Low Hygiene increases disease risk
- Ranger Teams can remove waste
- Functions as an assigned task
- Lowers hygiene if not cleaned up
- Feeders
- Compies can infect carnivore/insectivore feeders
- Guests
- Compy Aggression
- Triggered when comfort drops below threshold
- Storms
- Skittish (trait)
- Rabid (Rabies)
- Triggered when comfort drops below threshold
- Compies can passively infect guests with diseases
- Generates bad PR
- Spurs lawsuits
- Compy Aggression
The above hygienic system proposal is a bit in-depth, but it boils down to either using up your Rangers time to clean up the enclosures, or give a natural solution a shot. Compies are generally harmless unless you overlook their genetics, but there are certain conditions that can make them aggressive enough towards Guests.
