I've always felt ED because of its BGS and rolling community goals has the potential to mirror our societal issues in great detail. So far I've been mostly satisfied with the response of the game to current affairs however I feel there are some areas worth exploring going forward in the world building into the future.
Cybernetics and Transhumanism.
With the addition of on foot gameplay there are opportunities now to tell a story on a personal level regarding the world's approach to human enhancement, and artificial intelligence. What dangers and opportunities these have already created and may create in the future?
Societal Uplifting
What would happen if humanity discovered a sentient race with similar capabilities to us but were at a primitive technological level. How would the community react to the prospect of being able to develop alongside a new lifeform that can be communicated with from the outset?
Resource Overabundance and Collapse
The effect of a civilisation having too much of a vital resource or technology limiting growth, societal freedom and development. The opposite effect of a collapse of a certain resource causing a period of increased growth.
These are just a few of my thoughts. Do you have any you would like to add?
