Powerplay Power chat

Is there any talk of eventually having some sort of power specific global chat in game? Cant help but to think how effective such a channel would be for connecting players not to mention actually feeling as if you pledge to something bigger than yourself.

I admit since its introduction I have been a PP hater even after trying it several times but I have come to accept it isnt the worst thing ever so I try.

Yeah... so I can use the interwebz but Im no l33t with the knowledge of programming or any such inner working for creation of such a mystical magical thing as a chat option in game like I can assume you are so how about laying off the passive agressive probably has a sad life replies and just tell me its expensive and probably not worth it ehh friend

Listen I really dont know anything which is why I ask. Didnt even think it would cost money or require a whole new server which sucks actually if it is a good idea. We all love game or we wouldnt be wasting our play time on a forum talking about ideas to help make it better so what do you think buddy?

Okay so your point is because the players connect peer to peer such a chat option would require an additional server. The price of said server would be expensive and the benefits of the end product would be minimal.

Ehh fair point, such large chat logs would probably just be filled with people arguing meaningless stuff anyways.

That's pretty much it.

The game already has direct, local, friend and wing chat channels, adding PP chat would likely be both technically possible and for the game probably a good thing. What that costs, and whether it's worth it, is up to FD really but I'll add my vote that it would be good to see. Until it gets implemented, more organised powerplayers are able to use teamspeak perhaps.

The problem with in game chat isn't technical, if FDev wanted to implement it they could. I think the problems are:

1. Who do you believe? Hundreds or even thousands of Cmdrs posting up what they want or what they think but how do you know who is really knowledgable and who doesn't really know what they are doing. Powerplay is complicated and it isn't explained very well, there are not that many people who have a good understanding of it.

2. Spam. Lots of spam and abuse. Obviously.

3. 5th Column. People from enemy powers will go on other powers chat and give orders or info designed to damage the power.

If ypu want to join the conversation for your power you should go to the Reddits and join the team speak. That is where the decisions are made.

But an absolute minimum ever goes to forums or anywhere else from the game.

Are you going to host the server to feed the chat to everyone else pledged to that power?

Yeah, because a poor mans version of IRC implemented in a game that simulates Newtonian Physics on the scale of 10 billion procedurally generated stars is just an obscene over-estimation of FDev's coding capabilities.

Get the hell out of here.. Implementing a "POWER CHAT" would be extremely easy. Text takes virtually no bandwidth and very little coding.
