Engineers Power Distributor mod' for a large combat ship?

I'm based pretty close to Sirius so, as a rule, I just take all my ships to Marco Gwent and put a G3 Charge-Enhanced PDist mod on them and I'm happy with the results.

My Corvette, however, is running a pair of C4 beams (in either G5 efficient or G5 long-range flavours, depending how I feel) and it does drain the capacitor fairly quickly and then takes a while to recharge to a useful level.

So, I was wondering about either fitting a G3 weapon-focused PDist or a G5 Charge-Enhanced PDist.

I figure the weapon-focused mod' will give me a harder "first strike", even though it doesn't recharge as quickly as a G5 charge-enhanced PDist - and it'll also reduce the rate my shield recharges and prevent me from boosting quite as often.

Conversely, the charge-enhanced mod' will reduce my "first strike" capability but it'll recharge quicker so I can fire again - also recharging my shields more quickly and allowing me to boost more often.

Thing is, my Corvette usually goes up against big ships that seem to have a lot of SCBs so it seems, to me, that my priority should be to strip an opponent's shields as quickly as possible so they can't spam SCB's to recharge them.
That being the case, I suspect the weapon-focused PDist mod' is the way to go, so I can take down an opponents shields in one volley, even though it comes with some fairly significant down-sides.

My shields are pretty tough (7A prismatics) and they already take a while to recharge so the slightly slower rate of the weapon-focused PDist mod' probably won't make much difference.
In combat I use SCBs to recharge them and when I'm not in combat I don't really care how quickly they recharge.

Anybody have any opinions or suggestions?

There is G5 weapon focused PD in 3.0 - with the right special effect it can have +72% to WEP capacity and +33% to WEP recharge speed. That means you can safely fire even several long-range beams.

No need to care about shield recharge speed if you use prismatics. They simply cannot be recharged in field - you have to either use SCBs or use reboot to recharge them to 50%.

(Obviously, this can be applied only to PVE. I don't know about PVP, since I never engage in it)

It depends how you fly really, where your PIPs usually rest, how your ship is configured etc.

You've identified the pros and cons, it's ultimately up to you to choose. I use a G5 charge enchanced on my 'Vette as I don't need the extra capacity (Cannons/MCs), and I usally sit in 2-2-2, or 4-1-1, and maneuver heavily to keep targets lined up for the fixed cannons, which means the extra recharge is valuable to ENG and WEAP.

If you're running beams / PAs etc that can make use of the extra capacity, and you want an aggressive man-fighter of a ship, go weap focused.

Also if you're struggling with SCBs, a far more effective method of dealing with them is feedback rails. The small hardpoints on the 'Vette aren't much good for anything, except rails. 2 feedback on the smalls, never worry about SCB spam again.

The answer to all this is G5 charge enhanced. For PvE biweave shields are better than prismatics on any ship (including the big 3), and having better engine recharge is a good thing to have in combat. In any engagement lasting longer than one salvo, recharge is king. Why not max out the recharge on all 3?

The only reason I can see to not use charge enhanced is for explorers, who can use an undersized distro with g3 engine focused and still be able to boost. For combat applications, G5 charge enhanced is where it's at.

Speed is not that important in PVE for the Big 3 - you can safely fly in 4-0-2 in any RES or CZ if you have 5-6Gj of reinforced prismatics. You basically have a godmode. Also known as "flying turret".
